Who people are when they're afraid is who people are. Think of it like an x-ray of their character, without any of the other stuff (personality, appearance, sense of humor) in the way. You now own a snapshot of the moral center of everyone you know. Proceed accordingly.

Hey small cabinetmaker, you have to close the shop your family has owned for 100 years - because of a virus that mostly affects 80-year-olds. I know your staff is mostly guys in their 30s, but whatev. Also Home Depot can stay open and sell cabinets. Because. But wait! We'll x/1

"SHOW ME YOUR PAPERS" has never, in all of recorded history, been the right side. This time is not different.

So if @CNBC and this @FrankLuntz joker want to spread the lie that you can magically whip up a holiday meal for 10 people with $58, fine. I'm telling you - with knowledge hard-earned of what it is to be poor and hungry and desperate and ashamed - they are truly full of shit.

Nine years ago, my husband and I lost a son. We are not conventionally religious, but the people who prayed for us, who thought about us, who held us in their hearts and took on some of that intolerable sorrow? They lifted and carried us through the dark. Prayer matters.
It is shocking to me that so many left wing politicians attack the idea of prayer in response to a tragedy. Literally no one thinks prayer is a substitute for action. We pray because our hearts are broken and we believe that God is listening.

I want to tell you a story about food that I've never told anyone before - because I've been ashamed, for 30+ years. When I was 25, living in Duluth, MN, married to a helpless shapeshifting addict & mother to 2 little boys, I started some mac & cheese for dinner one night. 🧵
The average cost of #Thanksgiving dinner (estimated at $58.08 for a 10-person gathering) has dropped 5% since last year – the lowest since 2021. 🦃 cnbc.com/2024/11/24/tha…

I asked my husband what will happen if the stock market never comes back and he said, If the stock market never comes back, the stock market will be the least of our problems.

I'm stuck in a city where I know no one, rental cars are sold out, hotels are full, and I may not be able to fly home due to the airline workers' strike against govt mandates. I'm ELATED. I will take an uber, find a Red Roof Inn and crawl home if I have to. Keep the faith.✈️💚

Weird to me that guys who triple mask, fear contact with toddlers, and refuse to go back to the office keep posting photos of Zelensky in a combat helmet with the caption, "This is what a real man does!"

Nearly every instance of government overreach that I'm fighting or fearful of today has its roots in the Patriot Act. Why wasn't I screaming and resisting 20 years ago? Why weren't all of us?

I've become something I never thought I would: a single-issue voter. Free speech. I will vote for the candidate who supports it—and opposes censorship—period, no matter what the downsides. I invite you to join me. Because without free speech, we're just hostages.

My yoga studio sent me a 'good news!' message yesterday. They're introducing vaccinated-only classes. I wrote back to cancel my membership w this note: I am vaccinated but do not participate in vaccine-only events, just as I am white but would not opt into a whites-only class.

I have a theory about the immense wave of adolescent transgenderism that I haven't seen discussed before. But it requires me to tell you a story. When I was 15, I left home & moved 30 miles away. I lied about my age to get an apartment & a job as a waitress at a Ramada Inn. 🧵

I listened in on a zoom parents' mtg with a MN (DFL) senator tonight. The topic was schools. I'm not going to name the district or the legislator; I was a guest and that's their business. The thing I will tell you: However bad/sad/depressing I thought it would be, it was worse
