As application season rolls around again, here's your reminder that materials from my successful applications are available on my website (NSF-GRFP, Google PhD Fellowship, Stanford data science postdoc, and CS faculty job search): anjalief.github.io/statements.html

I will be joining Johns Hopkins @JHUCompSci @jhuclsp as an assistant professor in fall 2023, following a postdoc with @jurafsky! I am very excited and so grateful to all of the people who have supported me, especially my incredible advisor Yulia Tsvetkov

In the interest of improving equity in access to application materials, I've uploaded my statements (CS faculty job, Google PhD fellowship, NSF GRFP fellowship) to my website anjalief.github.io/statements.html [sorry a little late for fellowships this year]

I’ve been pretty nervous to tweet about this paper, but I’m feeling brave today, so here's thread about our #ACL2021 paper “A Survey of Race, Racism, and Anti-Racism in NLP” with @sulin_blodgett , @ZeerakW and Yulia Tsvetkov @tsvetshop. Preprint: arxiv.org/abs/2106.11410 1/12

Mutually agreed upon NLP conference pronunciation (thanks @esalesk!): NAACL —> “nackle” 🧂 EACL —> “ehicle” 🚙 AACL —> “aaaackle” 😱 ACL —> “ackle” 🍎 EMNLP —> “LMNOP” 🔡

In case anyone else is still trying to use Twitter for work, I will be looking for 1-2 PhD students this cycle in social/ethical NLP, more information here: anjalief.github.io/research_areas… And in case this site is going down, I'm now also @[email protected]

Dear advisors, please send your students a giant box of snacks, because my advisor did this and it’s the best thing ever

I am so honored and thankful to have my research supported for the next few years!! How can you support research? Ask your representatives to oppose DHS rule changes that would limited the length of visas for international students. Call scripts here:

I did it - I proposed! I’m officially engaged to my work! Also, our lab now has a Twitter account, which you should follow if you want to hear about all the cool multilingual, low resource, social good, and beyond NLP work that we do!
Congratulations to @anjalie_f for her successful proposal! Her thesis aims to shift NLP research to real-word data and challenges, where research questions and methodology are guided by relevant social theories.  Also, Anjalie is officially our lab's first PhD candidate :)

We are so honored by this award and so grateful to the amazing Wikimedia community that made our research possible! This was a real team effort journey with fantastic co-authors @chan_young_park @linnyKos @tsvetshop, and we hope our work contributes to reducing bias on Wikipedia!
The first @Wikimedia Research Award Research Award of the Year 2023 goes to @anjalie_f @chan_young_park @linnyKos @tsvetshop for their work "Controlled Analyses of Social Biases in Wikipedia Bios" ⭐️ arxiv.org/abs/2101.00078

Congratulations to Dr. Field (@anjalie_f) on successfully defending her thesis!!!

I'm late to the party on this, but recently started using huggingface transformers, and it's mind-blowing that I can evaluate hundreds of models with dozens of metrics without needing to know anything about what the model is, what the task is, or even what the inputs/outputs are

I won't pretend that I know what it's like to be an international student in this country, especially now, but I want you to know that many faculty/admins/students/people support you and will advocate for you. You are wanted, and you are not alone.

Reasons I don’t like Slack: 1. I keep missing messages 2. I constantly have to remember which channel is on which workspace 3. TIL all my slack spaces put themselves in Do Not Disturb mode at night?? Conclusion: Slack really isn’t designed for grad students
