- Don’t tell me how to feel about these #superspreader republicans getting sick. I am a 55 year old woman who has been paying close attention to each decision, every word. This was a 3 yr epic failure to lead/govern. They are incompetent, they are mean-spirited, they are bullies.
- I love libraries and I love librarians! Always have, always will. HOWEVER, here’s a thread on how I got my heart squashed by one particular library in Massachusetts yesterday.
- Replying to @amypoeppelSo my 1st thought was I should take this as cheeky and ignore the fact that the post made me really sad. But actually - maybe there is something not quite right with a library creating a cart of books their librarians hate and discourage patrons *outright* from checking out.
- Replying to @amypoeppelMaybe a reader will feel shamed if a book they love is on the NO! cart. I thought we want to encourage people to read, whatever genre, whatever author they like.
- Replying to @amypoeppelIn this library, the staff is actively discouraging readers from checking out my book. Ouch again. I talked to my many super supportive author friends, and we all concluded that this cart is NOT in the usual generous spirit of libraries. What would @mychal think?
- Replying to @amypoeppelTo have a library actively working against mid-list authors – both at a branch and online – is just kinda… mean. That’s my take anyway. An author commented on the post, saying the cart “promotes a mean-spirited vibe”
- Replying to @amypoeppelAnd these particular librarians just steered a whole bunch of readers away from specific books. I have never seen a library do this before, I do not think it’s normal, and I feel it is a bad practice.
- Replying to @amypoeppelAnd – OUCH - there is my book!! – on the cart! To be fair, THE SWEET SPOT is in VERY good company – I spy so many authors I LOVE in this picture. I also see lots of classics – Moby Dick and To Kill A Mockingbird.
- Replying to @amypoeppelThey call the display their “Anti-Staff Picks" [Note: they probably meant “Staff Anti-Picks” but I think we get their meaning.] In the caption, they say you can check the books out, “though we haven’t the foggiest idea why you’d want to do that.” Yikes.
- Replying to @amypoeppelWhy am I so bothered by this? I guess it’s because I am not Herman Melville (dead) and I am not FABULOUS Bonnie Garmus (bestseller) – and I always hope readers will walk into library, find my book, check it out, and decide if I’m a writer they like or not.
- Replying to @amypoeppeland the library replied, saying that the post is “entirely tongue and cheek to show that taste is subjective.” Yes, I agree - taste is subjective! But most of us respect and trust librarians and their views on books.
- Replying to @OhNoSheTwitntJustin Timberlake: ? GP: It’s my vag in a box.
