The New York Times Book Review polled its readers for the best books of the 21st century. I’m proud to report that A GENTLEMAN IN MOSCOW came in at number 3. THE LINCOLN HIGHWAY also made the list, coming in at 75. Thanks to all who voted!
After a few years of planning, I started my new novel this week. The story begins in Cairo in 1940 and ends in New York City in 1999. Wish me luck.

Taking my daughter to college in Ohio, we visited this giant coffee pot in Bedford, PA, on the LINCOLN HIGHWAY! The shot was the perfect complement to the one of me and my son at the giant donut in LA that I posted 7 years ago. ☕️ 🍩 🎉
After a few fits and starts, it’s full steam ahead. The great Ewan McGregor to star as Count Alexander Rostov in the Showtime/Paramount series of A GENTLEMAN IN MOSCOW. Shooting to begin in 6 months…
Here's the cover of my new novel, THE LINCOLN HIGHWAY, coming to you October 5. It's about four boys on their way from Nebraska to New York City in 1954.
PS: I no longer have a beard.
I was signing at @mcnallyjackson and ran into this giant! She was signing her newest, A BOOK OF DAYS. 1 thing I love about Patti Smith is that her art is always a call—to action, to love, to life. Her voice is at times gentle, at times fierce and the world is richer for it.
Correct. My book coming out in April is TABLE FOR TWO, a story collection which includes a 200 page noir novella about Eve from RULES OF CIVILITY. The Cairo novel will be out in 2025, if all goes well…
@amortowles in your recent newsletter you talk about the book next year but this isn’t the one you’ve been writing which starts in Cairo right? Thanks!
