Let's be honest. For everyone in ML/NLP, it's a really exciting time but also very stressful with so many new papers, models, benchmarks, deadlines, reviews, talks, workshops, conferences...
How do you keep up and stay sane?
For me, the only solution is collaboration. 1/n

- My late parents’ apt emptied and put on sale, to mark 2023 as a year of closure. Dad 1939-2022, Mom 1945-2023, married in Seoul, had me in New York, lived in Silicon Valley in the 90s. Goodbye 2023! 2024 will be a year of beginnings for their college-graduating grandkids.
- AI benefits the most privileged and further marginalizes those who are already marginalized. We need to ask, "is this technology shifting the power, or is it just amplifying those in power?" @timnitGebru #iclr2021 (1/n)

- Accepted for #emnlp2020 "Suicidal Risk Detection by Military Personnel" We analyze social media posts, written anonymously in Korean by active-duty soldiers in S.Korea's compulsory military service to identify suicidal risk. Pretty neat work!
- I just noticed all authors on this paper are women. I don’t try to recruit women students and collaborators, but they somehow like working with me 😊 Note that most of my previous papers have a much smaller # of women authors, often just 1 (me) 🥲A new arxiv of a #TACL paper led by @jin__jiho on Korean social bias dataset arxiv.org/abs/2307.16778.
