“NEVER AGAIN” One of my councillor colleagues asked me about my white poppy today so I thought I’d share what the white poppy is and why I wear one. 🧵/1

Zia Yusuf is incorrect. I wrote the Greens’ drugs policy which @ZackPolanski advocates for. Riskier drugs such as heroin would only be available on prescription from an NHS doctor (incidentally, this was the system that existed in Britain prior to the 1971 Misuse of Drugs Act)
🚨🎥 WATCH: Green leader Zack Polanski and Reform's Zia Yusuf get into a shouting match Polanski: "Farage joined forces w far-right Nazi group" Yusuf: "In Polanski's version of Britain, it is legal to sell fentanyl, crack cocaine and heroine, but illegal to rent your flat out"

I’m an NHS doctor. I have just earned an extra £200 for covid-related locum work and have donated it to @novaramedia. Their reporting of the coronavirus pandemic has been second to none and has contained a level of detail and scrutiny that is absent in the traditional media.

I really struggle to understand why more folk don’t support the Greens. Britain is in a mess and there is a way out. The Greens have the right policies to fix the inequality crisis which is the root cause of the majority of our social problems.
Carla Denyer, "You pay less tax on assets than you do from income from work, we think that's unfair.. Changes would raise £50 billion" @carla_denyer #BBCQT "So when Rachel Reeves goes out night after night saying there is no magic money tree, we can't invest in public services"

The decision about whether or not to prescribe puberty blockers to trans children should be made by an appropriately trained medical professional, after a comprehensive assessment. Not by a politician. 1/
Puberty Blockers. A 🧵  Children’s healthcare must always be led by evidence.  Medicine given to children must always be proven safe and effective first. I know there’s lots of fear and anxiety.  Let me explain why this decision was taken. 1/9

FOOD SECURITY: Thread 🧵 It’s scary to see how fragile our food system has become. These empty shelves at the Lerwick Tesco this evening are the result of just a few days’ disruption in our food supply. 1/

The white poppy is a symbol of peace. Peace, not just as a passive absence of violence, but as a commitment of actively working towards a just world where the conditions for violence do not exist. 🧵/4

I’m hugely excited to have been elected as the first ever @scottishgreens councillor in Shetland! This is a small but significant moment as we build the movement for social & ecological justice in Shetland, Scotland and the wider world. 💚💚💚

In Gaza, we witness the terrifying consequences of decades of failure to work for peace, with thousands of people killed. Despite this, political leaders are refusing to call for a ceasefire. For me, the message of the white poppy seems more urgent and relevant than ever. 🧵/9

We are entering the era of climate breakdown, resulting in a world that is less stable. The hard work of peacemaking is even more imperative: not just between nations but in our domestic politics, in our communities, in our personal relationships and within ourselves. 🧵 10/10

The white poppy is also a symbol of remembrance, not just for British soldiers, but for all combatants, and civilians - who now make up the vast majority of casualties in modern warfare. 🧵/5
