🌋#Shishaldin At least two explosions have occurred at Shishaldin since midnight local time. A little after 7 am today, this small steam and ash eruption was observed. If you're in the area, please note that these explosions can occur with little to no warning.
Shishaldin Volcano eruption plume, July 14, 2023. The cone-shaped volcano rises above the ocean in the center of the photo with a steam plume rising not quite as high again and drifting slightly to the right from the photo's perspective. Dark ash is visible on the upper part of the volcano while the lower part is mostly white. Photo courtesy of Lee Cooper.

An amazing shot of the growing lava dome at Great Sitkin Volcano, taken by Dave Ward Aug. 4, 2021. The dome has been growing since mid-July, and the last explosive event was May 25, 2021. AVO uses satellite to measure the rate of growth. It is now over 100m in diameter.
