Apparently, while studying for the midterm, my students memed my class. 💀 credit: @wrboohar

A 🧵 on teaching dynamical systems in #JuliaLang (Spoiler: it's a JOY) Working on differential equations in my PhD, I used MATLAB/Mathematica for symbolic calc, Python for numerical integration when MATLAB solvers failed (and they did fail) & matcont/auto for bifurcations...

Wowwee! Our lab will be funded by an @NIH R35 MIRA award for the next five years. We’ll be investigating the fundamental dynamics of cell state transitions using theory, inference, and machine learning. Postdoc positions available! ☀️ @qcb_usc @USCDornsife

Thrilled (& flabbergasted) that our lab will be funded by an @NSF CAREER award for the next five years!!! The prelim results in the proposal were 💯 the work of fantastic students: Megan, Xiaojun, MeiLu, & @Raktim7879.🙌🙌🏼🙌🏾 Stem cell sys bio is coming soon to classrooms of LA!

Single cells, single cells UMAP all the way, Batch correction, what a ride, What, then imputation? hey! Single cells, single cells Zeros all the way, I guess you really need to hide Behind shoddy PCA

Started playing with Makie.jl in #julialang as an alternative for plotting and wow! I think I'm sold. Here's the phase plane of my Lotka-Volterra model... 😍

Ok, that’s it! In the last three years I’ve been teaching this course to grad students, the amount & ease at which things can be done in #julialang has simply gone 🚀 Code is available 👇. Have fun! ✌️ github.com/alavendelm/jul…

Hiya @imperialcollege through the mist at dawn. Stay classy London.

Taught intro class on scRNA-seq data analysis today... might have hammered home these 🚩Perils & pitfalls🚩 a bit too fervently but, yes, you, seriously, look at the data.

Well, I never expected to write “giant rodent bouncer” in a scientific perspective piece, but here we are. My thoughts on Capybara for cell identity profiling 👇 Congrats @WenjunK @EstebanMazzoni @morris_lab et al! @CellRepMethods @CellStemCell

Very excited about this new paper led by fantastic PhD student Megan Franke. We introduce a new modeling framework in #julialang, capable of simulating cell-internal GRNs and cell-cell communication simultaneously. biorxiv.org/content/10.110… macleanlab.usc.edu/people/megan-f…

I’ve said this before, but damn, it brings me so much joy to sit around a table again with a student, laptop and pad of paper in front of us, looking at some new data. This is the job I signed up for.

Today is the 3rd anniversary of my starting a lab at @USC. What a ride. I am so grateful that I get to do this every day. That's not to say it's easy. Starting a lab was already a tall feat without a global pandemic. On many days it feels gargantuan, on some insurmountable,
