The messages from friends and colleagues that I’ve received over the past 15 hours have been humbling.  Honored to announce, officially, that I have been nominated to serve as Secretary of State. If confirmed, this is a mission I will take on with my full heart.

My family lost a parent and grandparent, a source of love and inspiration — my father Donald Blinken. A member of the U.S. Army Air Corps, a U.S. Ambassador, president of the Mark Rothko Foundation, chair of the State University of New York dad served his city, state and country.

The sweeping arrests of pro-democracy demonstrators are an assault on those bravely advocating for universal rights. The Biden-Harris administration will stand with the people of Hong Kong and against Beijing’s crackdown on democracy.

Dad inspired me to public service. He lived with decency, dignity and modesty. He loved his wife Vera and his family. He built a wonderful life and gave me a wonderful life. I love you dad.

Thinking today of the men and women of the State Department — Foreign Service and Civil Service. Their dedication to serving the national interest and the American people is second to none. It was the privilege of a lifetime to work by their side.

And oh the irony: a separate server.
Trump WH used the power of classification and restricted access - meant to protect national security - to protect his corruption. An extraordinary abuse of power that rightly caught the whistle blower’s attention.

I was blessed to spend time with Pope Francis. His humanity was matched by his humility. He always asked visitors to pray for him as he prayed for us. He is in our collective prayers today.

This is devastating. President Trump acknowledges he has only JUST NOW «really learned a lot about COVID » & « gone to school on it.” The time to do that was 200K deaths ago, not when it affected you. We all wish you well but also wish you had done your job. Please do it now.

Among my parents and grandparents are immigrants, refugees, a Holocaust survivor. For them and many others, America was the last best hope on earth. Their stories inspired me to serve. America at its best is why I’m here—that’s what I hope to help restore for future generations.

Please read. This is the larger truth about Joe Biden. And there are hundreds of stories just like it. Let’s not kill what’s left of empathy in our public life. In Defense of Joe Biden: A Hug When I Needed One – Jeannie Etchart – Medium

We are building a team that looks like America, led by extraordinary public servants. It would be the honor of my life to work with these leaders -- and all of the Department's women and men -- to reinvigorate the power of America’s example.

I was there, too. VP Biden patiently but firmly explained how our system and the rule of law work -- or used to.

With respect — and I write this as a senior advisor to the Biden campaign — Sen. Warren attracted a remarkable group of foreign policy thinkers and innovators who would be the envy of any campaign and who will play critical roles if there is a democratic administration.

It was quite telling that you were hard-pressed to find many notable senior national security leaders – call them establishment if you want – who signed up for Warren’s campaign.

Job #1 for a president is protecting our people and fighting forces. That’s why a president starts the day by reading and getting briefed on the most important intelligence we collect, in the President’s Daily Brief. Until now...
I was in the PDB with Joe Biden every morning. He asked questions because he’d already read the PDB before we met with the briefers and always had our troops in mind.
