Some personal news: I’m taking on a new beat @PhillyInquirer. Today is my last day on the health desk. Starting Monday, I’ll be the Inky’s civil courts reporter. My time on health has been the best j-school I could have asked for. But I’m PUMPED for the new challenge. 1/2

Great British Bake Off but you pair every contestant with a 3-year-old who really wants to help.

Reporting on suicide reminders: - People die by suicide, not commit - People survive suicide attempts, not fail them - We don't share note contents - We don't describe method - Resources and warning on top, more resources on bottom of the story - Frame through hope

Everyone knows what happened in Babyn Yar, right? It is one of the singularly most horrific massacres in human history. The Nazis murdered nearly all of Kyiv's Jewry – nearly 34,000 people – one bullet at a time over a period of only 2 days in 1941. Thread.
To the world: what is the point of saying «never again» for 80 years, if the world stays silent when a bomb drops on the same site of Babyn Yar? At least 5 killed. History repeating…

.@elonmusk, yes or no — do Weiss and Taibbi have access to users’ DMs? It would be good to get clear explanation about this screen and yes/no answer to this straightforward question.

It’s easier to convince people who weren’t allowed to learn about the Holocaust that vaccines passports are *just* like the Holocaust.

I sincerely don’t get the post-Kate Middleton announcement scolding. Wasn’t the *entire* premise of the speculation / conspiracies was that it seems that there is something very bad going on with her, and the Royal Family seems to try to hide it with bizarre lies?!

Immigrant needs your help being an American dad. My 2.5 year old is obsessed with baseball. He wants to “play” baseball but he’s tiny! What are the steps here? Do I buy him a large ball decorated like a baseball? When do you get a glove? Help! I never threw a baseball in my life.

Kurt Cobain died 29 years ago today. He suffered chronic pain. Wrote in his journal that he chose drugs instead of ending his own life. Buprenorphine worked for him, as it does for many today. But it was illegal then. When his physician died in 93 he was caught off. RIP Kurdt
A photo from Kurt Cobain's diary that starts "I bought a gun but chose drugs instead." He then goes on to describe detox is torture and how buprenorphine helped him.

That awkward moment when you are a Jewish journalist and you tell a Ukrainian you are interviewing that your grandmother is from Ukraine and then he asks if you still have family there and you say no and then he gets it and there is silence.

Two more children have measles in Philadelphia. They got the measles at daycare, after a person infected who refused vaccine or post-exposure prophylaxis attended against quarantine rules. Outbreak so far: 5 infants/children and 1 unvaccinated adult.

My only contribution to the NYT-Haiti discourse: I think journalism, especially long form and explanatory journalism, should abandoned the need to frame *every* article as a scoop. Some things aren’t new or a secret, they are still worthy of being told in full *again*.

A young man is in a mental health crisis. He attacked his grandmother. Instead of police, a mobile crisis unit arrives. No sirens or flashing lights — and no guns. The counselors only talk. He agrees to get a psych eval. Alternative response in action.

Kurt Cobain died 28 years ago today. Nearly every obituary or writing on his legacy mentions drug. Nearly none mention the ways that US drugs laws and stigma failed him — pushing him to treatment that didn't work. The same forces fail others today. 🧵
