Usually, we learn about the fall of media organizations retrospectively, in postmortems. I wanted to see one in its liminal moment between bustling existence and relative extinction. So I spent Election Day in the Scripps News offices.

I think the part that really gets me is that she’s a senior software engineer and he says “she will never understand what it's like to study so much.” Ummmm 🤔

Tonight I’m thinking of a Detroit bus driver who died of COVID in April. His loving wife tried to bring him to the hospital when he was feeling quite ill—he was sent home and died a few days later. Why does Christie get to be admitted to a hospital if he has “mild” symptoms?

In consultation with my doctors, I checked myself into Morristown Medical Center this afternoon. While I am feeling good and only have mild symptoms, due to my history of asthma we decided this is an important precautionary measure.

Also, to clarify: this man is (luckily) not MY husband. “The woman was too stunned to speak” is a pop culture reference that I now realize may come off confusing in this context. I would personally divorce a dude like this SO QUICK.

Victoria and Jonathan Regor each contributed $2,800—the max amount—to George Santos' first bid for a House seat. Their listed address was 45 New Mexico Street in New Jersey. Various databases suggest those names don't exist. Neither does that address. 👀
We tried to call the top donors to George Santos' 2020 campaign. Many don’t seem to exist.

I was literally talking to the union representing federal air traffic controllers earlier today about how there’s already a major shortage of air traffic controllers and the resignation offers they all just got from OPM could seriously endanger public safety.

An FAA employee I know confirms agency already lacks sufficient air traffic controllers. The so-called “buyouts” and other attacks on federal employees won’t help. Remember that fact when the flight delays (crashes?) commence and Trumpers start falsely blaming DEI or Biden.

My mom is a financial advisor, and when I asked her if I should be worried about an economic recession, she was like: "Oh honey, don't worry. You don't have enough money for a recession to hurt you too much." Is this supposed to make me feel relieved?

RIGHT! deranged people are everywhere. I recently (& unfortunately) sat next to a "pilot" on a plane who kept telling me about how planes work & showing me his reading material on plane crashes. (I had airpods in— he ignored them.) I'm not 100% convinced that guy wasn't this guy.

As COVID-19 threatens to wreak havoc on the economy, Mnuchin announced the administration was seriously considering sending Americans checks. I talked to OG basic income advocate @AndrewYang about the recent cash infusion ideas that are similar to his.

In 2021, Gov. Abbott signed 2 laws allowing Texans 21+ to carry handguns without licenses or gun training, and to allow certain 18-20 year olds to carry handguns too. Today, he says the shooting—which killed at least 14 children and one teacher—is "incomprehensible."
