I’ve tried very hard to give the CDC the benefit of the doubt. But I’m increasingly frustrated that they do not comprehend how hard it is for organizations who are really trying to do the right thing in the real world to keep up with their guidance. And I’m a huge fan. Really.

How do you explain to people that if their kid is just over 5 year old, they need a booster, but if they are just under 5 years old, they should get… nothing?
  • user avatar
It can’t be said enough. We really need alternative guidance for mildly symptomatic or asymptomatic vaccinated and boostered people testing positive for Covid. Mandatory 10 day isolation is going to make things really difficult for essential services (and hard to enforce).

Dr. Caitlin Bernard is a phenomenal physician and human being, and she deserves nothing but our support and respect.

Two years ago today, I wrote this email to one of my editors @nytimes. I think it was the first time ever I declined to write a column.

Make antigen tests available and ridiculously affordable. Right now. You’re the US federal government. We have been saying this for many, many months. No more excuses. Do whatever it takes to make this happen.

Omg this is cheap. Do it now.

Why is there any cost sharing at all for insulin? Serious question. We all know the rationale for deductibles and co-pays, but how does that square for a life-saving medication that is needed forever?

Then, make rational guidance that actual Americans can follow to be safe.

Just stop right now and go read this, by Dr. Tracey Wilkinson. Seriously. Go do it. Dr. Caitlin Bernard Was Meant to Write This With Me Before She Was Attacked for Doing Her Job

It should go without saying, but it evidently can’t be said enough: good science communication matters. We are failing over and over and over again.

Is this the worst chart ever, or the absolute worst chart ever? I cannot believe this is real.

This chart is deceptively formatted, showing only two data points and only a tiny segment of relevant numbers on the y-axis. More complete charts show a very different trend. ycharts.com/indicators/us_… The president's ability to control gas prices for either good or ill is also minimal. money.howstuffworks.com/president-gas-…

Can someone explain to me how news organizations are ok with reporters they employ holding back very newsworthy reporting for months or years so those reporters can put it in a book instead? Seriously asking. I don't understand.

I've tried to stay quiet. I know Dr. Bernard. She's phenomenal. She cares so much for her patients. So many people should be ashamed of themselves for how they have vilified and attacked her without knowing the full story. I fear some are trying to cause her harm. It's shameful.
My heart breaks for all survivors of sexual assault and abuse. I am so sad that our country is failing them when they need us most. Doctors must be able to give people the medical care they need, when and where they need it.
