I just got back from a 3 day, 61 mile hiking trip in the Scottish Highlands testing the Watch Ultra. Overall I was very impressed. It retains what makes the regular Apple Watch so good, while pushing out the edges of what it can handle. Review/Video: david-smith.org/blog/2022/09/2…

I’m speechless. I genuinely never thought I’d ever see this. There is literally too much happening right now for my brain to keep up.

Cleaning out my office and I found the paper mockups I had made of the original Apple Watch. Used to give me a sense of the size and shape of it before they were actually released. We’ve come a long way since then.

Now that the new Apple Weather app is on the Mac, iPad and Lock Screen, why not bring it to the Apple Watch? I think its graphical approach of showing the conditions with animated backgrounds would make for a delightful watch face. & of course I had to try and prototype it 😇

This 13" Silicon MacBook Pro is the first computer I've ever used that is faster than my "Distraction Threshold"...where the time between hitting Build+Run and the app launching is too short for my mind to wander, which has been fantastic for my focus the last few days.

My heartfelt thanks to whoever at Apple got this sorted out so quickly. I really appreciate it. Thank you.

Is there a more productive way to spend my morning than digging out my old high school physics equations to build a SwiftUI rain drop simulator so that the droplets can accurately bounce off the clock hands? Almost Certainly. Is there a more fun way to spend my morning? Nope! 😁

I was feeling a bit nostalgic this morning looking back on my last 12 years of making apps. I knew I’d made a lot of apps…but I hadn’t actually counted them. The answer is 59…59 apps! That makes me tired just thinking about it.

I just released an Apple Watch app that I wrote with my son. It provides regular focus prompts on your wrist to give you a measure of your attention. It has really helped him with focus and attention. Completely free, I hope it can help other families too: david-smith.org/blog/2021/04/1…

🤯 Woah! Widgetsmith just went viral on TikTok (tiktok.com/@katamogz/vide…) which is a phrase I don’t even really understand but is having a rather robust result on my life right now.

After nearly 6 months of seeing this annoyingly come up whenever I rotate my phone, I just realized this button prevents it from appearing.

My daughter just call the iOS simulator on my screen my “Practice iPhone”. Which I gotta say is pretty spot on.

Introducing Watchsmith, a collection of highly customizable, schedulable complications and a watch app multi-tool that does just about everything. I built it to push the definition of what a “watch app” can be. Blog: david-smith.org/blog/2020/04/0… App Store: apps.apple.com/us/app/watchsm…
