It was a privilege to shoot & direct this film alongside a brilliant team (๐Ÿ’ช more soon) โ€“ย the subject matter and choices/challenges that we explored can be tough and confronting but reflect a reality that is experienced by so many women in Kenya, and far beyond. #BBCAfricaEye
"The rich have an opportunity to take their children to five-star hospitals and procure a safe abortion, silently, without anyone knowing or speaking. But the poor have to struggle." ๐ŸŽฅ #BBCAfricaEye investigates the battle for abortion rights in Kenya: bbc.in/4adWBWE

#ZimbabweanLivesMatter is trending around the world. If you donโ€™t normally follow developments in Zimbabwe and want to understand what is happening, and why so many Zimbabweans both at home and far beyond are so angry and desperate, here's a thread with some background... 1/

Same in Nairobi. I never understand it. Selling plastic mugs while on a UN salaryโ€ฆ WTF?
Sometimes I wonder whatโ€™s wrong with expats in Uganda. Selling light bulbs and dustbins online before they move๐Ÿ™„

Journalist friends around the world โ€“ย if you're following the Gold Mafia story and the @AJEnglish @AJIunit's documentary roll-out, good to note this as reporters based in Zimbabwe are going to feel a lot less able to talk about it and share findings from the films ๐Ÿ‘‡
Ladies and Gentlemen, After these continued threats from President Mnangagwaโ€™s spokesman against journalists reporting on the Al Jazeera investigation findings, I wonโ€™t be reporting on this story for my own safety. George Charamba has made clear the consequences if we continue.

Strong threats made against journalists who "repeat" details of Al Jazeera's explosive 'Gold Mafia' documentary, from a semi-anonymous Twitter account that many have identified as belonging to Zimbabwe's presidential spokesperson George Charamba ๐Ÿ‘‡

"I cannot wrap my head around the idea that the president of a country, even one as corrupt, ruthless and incompetent as ours, can be implicated in turning the state into a laundromat for dirty money." @Mamoxn op-ed on the @AJIunit doc on Zimbabwe:

Fadzayi Mahere is emerging as one of Africa's most interesting, and important, young leaders. We followed her 2018 independent parliamentary campaign and have since witnessed her rapid political rise. Our in-depth profile of Zimbabwe's @advocatemahere:

Just found this in a book. Livingstone House, in then Salisbury, now Harare. My grandmotherโ€™s first major high-rise project as a structural engineer, started in approx 1957. It possibly was the tallest building south of the Equator for a period but Iโ€™d like to verify that!

If you are from a posh background, you can get away with anything in this country - @owenjones84 on the tough, vital conversations weโ€™re not having about Boris Johnsonโ€™s total lack of fitness for office.
This is still the finest dismantlement of Boris Johnson that I have seen in a very long time. This should be shared every single day until we vote on December 12th. #GE2019

This was a sad piece to write โ€“ but glad @mailandguardian made space to remember the courageous @PatsonDzamara, who has died at just 34, searching for his brother to the end. ๐Ÿ“ท @nicholesobecki, we met Patson while in Zimbabwe w/ the support of @IWMF.

โ€œShutting down Winky Dโ€™s show sends a message that Zimbabweโ€™s authorities are willing to harass even the most popular performers for what they say" โ€“ย @mynassah Quite something to see dancehall artist @winkydonline the subject of a @hrw dispatch:
Wallace Chirumiko, aka โ€œWinky D,โ€ is a celebrated artist who recently released an album containing lyrics against injustice, corruption, and the economic meltdown in Zimbabwe. Earlier this month, Zimbabwe police stormed the stage and shut down his show. trib.al/32FJdy4
