As I suspected, Yesavage was tipping. I figured the giveaway would be a pre-pitch flex in his throwing arm, but he leans considerably forward when he threw a splitter. Feet more together on splitter. First inning:
Splitter, K's Rice Fastball, K's Volpe

- Replying to @ZachKaplanThis is frustrating because this is something the Yankees have been known to do well. Of course, Yesavage is so nasty that they could have been trying to relay signs and the hitters simply couldn't hit it. Massive props to the future of Toronto's rotation. Extremely tough
- Replying to @ZachKaplanAdmittedly, after further look, it was a sporadic tip. I’m not claiming he was doing this on every splitter, fastball, but certainly during the early part of his start. The point is, the Yankees had an advantage and maybe missed it. Trey is nasty, it didn’t make a difference.
- Wow! Absolutely a horribly-timed error by Elly de la Cruz…doubt an accurate throw gets him there but that causes the run to score Not only does this make a 14th straight Brewers win within reason but the Reds need a win to keep up with the Mets.
- Replying to @SK88277280Read my latest tweet. I came to that conclusion.
- Replying to @NYYMyBeloved @MaxMannis and @TalkinYanksWho is we 🤣🤣🤣
- David Bednar’s ‘Renegade’ entrance is electric late into the night here at Yankee Stadium.
00:00 - Wow. This Emmanuel Clase decision not only has major implications for the future of sports betting, but more pressingly, the trade strategies for competing Yankee, Mets, Phillies, Dodgers. More for @AthlonSports:
- I do not care about lefty-lefty splits. Ben Rice needs to be in the starting 9 tonight. 🧵 Even as an analytics person, I can still see where Rice has value in the middle of this order. Still slugging .481 against lefties (compared to .504 against righties).
- At a certain point, I'm not sure how you can justify ever benching Jose Caballero in favor of Anthony Volpe. Caballero with NYY (31 gms): .276/.368/.500, 3 HR, 8 RBI, 12 SB He's bringing an on-base, power and speed x-factor that Volpe simply does not have.
- This post was purely meant to show how incredible Trey’s fourth big league start is: that he was possibly tipping against a team known to capitalize on that, and still racked up 11 K’s and no hits over nearly 6 frames. That message seems to have gotten lost in the discourse. As I suspected, Yesavage was tipping. - Replying to @ZachKaplanMeanwhile, Yesavage was unreal purely because he hides his pitches so well in that rare arm slot. I’m surprised he wasn’t wearing long sleeves as other splitter-heavy pitchers, like Gausman do. If a 1B/3B coach can see his forearm as he finds the grip, it flexes on a splitter.
- I really don’t think Austin Wells’ head is in the game right now. Between the error on the basepaths and almost letting the run score from third there on the passed ball. Brutal.
- Replying to @RyanGarciaESMSend him up! This is the point in the season where Dominguez, Rice and others might show their fatigue, get him some reps every fifth day or use his speed as a pinch runner. I feel like even being in a big league clubhouse and watching Judge/others would be good for him.
