At old age, fathers are lonelier cos adult kids tend to focus more on their moms. It's not that their fathers aren't deserving, they are just naturally drawn to their moms.
The fathers also once focused on their moms. It's an unending vicious cycle.
So I always start my calls to customer care with:
Hi, I am Charles. I can imagine you have had a long day speaking with a lot of people. Thank you for taking the time to speak with me.
In a world where people are supposed to just do the jobs they are paid for, it helps to care.
