- On this day... in 1944, Operation Market Garden began Paratroopers were dropped near the targeted bridges, and XXX Corps began their advance from the Belgian-Dutch border.
- It’s one of the most iconic photographs of the war. The man on the left is Sandy Cortmann, 22 years old when he jumped into Arnhem. He jumped again last year 75 years on. He passed away yesterday in Aberdeen. A hero to us all. #WeHaveWays @almurray @James1940
