I guess it's time for a real pinned thread uwu We're the Planetes System: leftist gadabouts, mystical weirdos, and internet nuisances by trade. We drive horses, stream video games, play too much mahjong, and occasionally write about magic and philosophy.

The fun thing about posting mean jokes about Elon Musk on Twitter is you know there's a startlingly huge chance he is actually going to read it and it will hurt his feelings.
  • user avatar
So like it looks like Elon honestly did buy Twitter thinking he could stop people from making fun of him on Twitter and that's just so fucking sad and funny.

If you want to talk about how casual and everyday ableism is in our society, just look at prescription glasses. 🧵

Guys. It's actually really funny that Elon Musk bought Twitter. This dude became the richest guy on the planet in the space of like 18 months and then threw it all away on a whim seemingly because his girlfriend broke up with him and he was in a place.

Part of the reason why North Carolina gave up its bathroom ban back in the day is because Obama has the Department of Education threaten to withhold federal funding from the schools if trans students couldn't pee in them. Biden hasn't done anything because he doesn't want to.
cis libs who don't know how govt works shouldn't be allowed to community note trans ppl. biden 100% has the authority to enforce federal nondiscrimination protections in healthcare and education in FL - he just hasn't. it's my job to know this and i'm very good at my job

In 2020, I voted for Biden. Since then, my state banned gender-affirming care for minors, censored LGBTQ studies, and made it a criminal misdemeanor for me to use the women's restroom at my college.
We're done hearing "vote harder." It's time to organize:

The Democratic Party is actually the largest organized group of unwaveringly pro-trans people in America, but your book club sounds very ambitious. twitter.com/atgenevieve/st...

Poster lives in Florida. These things were done by Republican governor Ron DeSantis and the Republican state legislature in Florida, not Joe Biden. The federal government is not able to stop them.

Remember when the CIA released documents that were like "Yo we've had some guys doing astral projection but we're pretty sure they found some scary monsters in there so we told them to stop".

They're something a lot of people quite literally NEED to function in the world, but they aren't fully covered by most healthcare schema. Even if you have Medicaid, the help available to help you get a simple corrective device to help you SEE is minimal.

Ableism is casually baked into our society by profit motive. Burn it all down.

And then, the industry is dominated by a single central player (Luxottica, look it up) who gouges prices like mad. Society has exactly zero infrastructure in place to quickly replace your glasses should they become broken. It's just a nightmare all around.

This is like the simplest kind of corrective equipment. Now imagine you need a prosthesis or a power chair or a cochlear implant or something– something that isn't needed by like fully a third of the population if not more. You think those issues get better? No, of course not.

Glasses, at first, seem like an easy and obvious fix. Something almost everyone will need eventually, and something a significant percentage of people need most of their lives. This should be simple right? Not so, Don Ho.

Like I can post mean shit about the Sackler Family or the Wilks Brothers or even other celebrity billionaires like Gates and Bezos all day long but they will never read it and if by some chance they did it would mean nothing to them. Elon is a soft target.

Ableism is so casually baked into our society that I did a casual ableism while trying to talk about it! It's been bugging me all night I said "corrective devices" and not "assistive devices".
