With the Wu-Tang Clan on their final tour, @RecordingAcad asked me to write a guide of their collective discography. I had a great time: spinning back great music, researching via books/docs, telling their story. Check it out:

Kaytranada nominated for Best New Artist and he's been dropping heat for ten years. God bless

Dedicating this story to my cousin Crystal, who died in the hospital this weekend after a fight with COVID-19. Love you, cuz.

The Breonna Taylor killing has gotten so, so little attention on here compared to other police shootings in recent memory. I'd barely seen anything about it here before looking up the case myself. We/media really do value black women less, and we need to change that.

One thing that impressed me about Mac Miller was his dedication to becoming a focused musician. He popped off frat rap early on and could've stuck with that, but he put his head down, focused on his craft, and gained respect from the best.

I'm far from the person who's gonna be defending Kim Kardashian on a regular basis. But before assuming that Kanye doesn't have people around who care about him, read this. And remember that it applies to other people with loved ones who have mental illnesses, too.
Kim Kardashian releases a statement on Kanye West:

Just saw #BlackPanther, and my girlfriend’s 13-year-old daughter is literally crying because of how powerfully the film portrayed black people, esp black women. Don’t let anyone say this film doesn’t impact how we see ourselves.

There’s gonna be a lot of confusion this morning. Tech 9 (@Therealtech9), a respected battle rapper, passed away. Tech N9ne, founder of Strange Music, is still with us. Hip-hop definitely lost someone dear today. Just want to be clear on who it was.

I really appreciate that Black people will legitimately never say Candyman in the mirror. Not even as a joke or as a reference. We are dead fucking serious about not saying it

Everyone talking about Offset wilding out. But what stands out to me is how graceful Cardi has been. She announced the breakup but she’s not talking shit about him (though she has every right to), and maintains respect for him as her child’s father while doing her own thing.

This Pusha T diss is mad problematic. Respectability politics, women and children mentioned by name, clowning 40's multiple sclerosis, etc. Really ugly stuff. But Drake asked for it, namedropping Pusha's fiancee. This is war. And I can't front, this shit is giving me goosebumps.

How does a comedian like DL Hughley speak so eloquently about how black men are mistreated and profiled, but completely ignores that Terry Crews could’ve gotten shot and/or jailed, losing his family and his career, if he slapped this rich white man at this party?
