Puddles the mussel-sniffing dog today found aquatic invasive mussels on a boat traveling thru WA. Even smelled them through plastic! With other state's boat check stations closed seasonally, WDFW's stations Puddles are last defense against invasive mussels in our lakes & rivers.

With several reports of Southern Resident killer whales in poor body condition, we issued an emergency rule today that requires commercial whale-watching vessels to stay at least one-half nautical mile away from 11 vulnerable whales this summer.

After nearly two decades, the state channel catfish record has been broken by 16-year-old Cole Abshere of Blaine, Washington. The fish weighed in at 37.70 lbs and measured 42 inches! Way to go Cole.

Very cool @MountRainierNPS! In September we received reports of a moose (likely the same one) southwest of Snoqualmie Pass. Prior to that our most recent verified detection of a moose in Western Washington was just west of Stevens Pass in 2009.

Fin is an invasive mussel-sniffing dog whose job is to check boats @ watercraft check stations. He went to the Spokane Boat Show today. We had a hard time convincing him he didn't need to check every. single. boat. If you plan to go to Spokane or Tri-Cities Boat Shows, visit us!
