Major update today, the ability to stream PCVR games wirelessly was approved to be included with the original app on the store! Not in App Lab but in the official store!
This removes lots of friction for new users
EXCLUSIVE: You can now wirelessly stream Half-Life: Alyx, Boneworks, H3VR and other PC VR-only games to Oculus Quest in Virtual Desktop without sideloading.

Big update today that brings HEVC 10-bit encoding for both desktop and VR games. A new H.264+ option that pushes the bitrate limit to 400 Mbps. A new passthrough environment on Quest and a local dimming option on Quest Pro. Enjoy!
Virtual Desktop will always remain a one-time purchase app with free updates. I don’t have investors or shareholders so you are not going to see transitions to NFTs, crypto, web3 or any of this metaverse nonsense.
Today we are releasing a really cool update that adds upscaling to your streamed PCVR games in Virtual Desktop. We've worked with Qualcomm to bring something similar to FSR but runs on the XR2.
It is called Snapdragon Game Super Resolution (SGSR) and it can work along with SSW
VR Developers, don’t use the Meta XR SDK to develop your games. Whether you use Unity or Unreal, you should use the built-in OpenXR support in the engines. The Meta XR SDK only works with Quest & Link; it is a buggy mess hardcoded to not work with other runtimes and headsets.
Update 1.14 is now live! Adds hand tracking, Universal menu support, improved VR streaming compatibility with laptops, multi-GPU and external GPU configurations. Enjoy!
Tomorrow I’ll be starting a full time position at Meta Reality Labs! This means I’ll be exclusively supporting Meta headsets in future versions of the app. I’ll also release features and updates at a much slower cadence, without really testing stuff before it goes live.
Some first impressions of the #AppleVisionPro:
- Onboarding is simple and straightforward
- No room setup, it just works
- No guardian setup needed or floor height adjustment. No obnoxious and immersion breaking boundaries visible when you use it. You put it on and it works

I am adding Contrast Adaptive Sharpening on Quest 1 and 2 today. This improves image quality of VR games considerably by undoing the effects of video compression.
You can control the amount of sharpening via a slider in the Streaming tab. It also works in conjunction with SSW!
