United Teachers Los Angeles' statement on the presidential election results.
United Teachers Los Angeles rejects authoritarianism and condemns Trump’s racist, misogynistic, homophobic, transphobic, and anti-immigrant rhetoric—and the dangerous policies connected to that rhetoric—that threaten our communities. Ensuring students and their families are informed and safe will always be our top priority.
We remain committed to ensuring that every LAUSD student, especially BIPOC, immigrant, and LGBTQIA+ students, has access to the education, resources, and support they deserve. We remain committed to defending the future of education and our academic freedom and continuing to empower students to build a more just, inclusive society.
As educators we have stood with our communities to defend students and public education—and we’re ready to stand once again against an administration that attempts to undermine our fundamental rights, deepen divisions, and roll back decades of progress. Resilience is our strength, and we will organize and resist every step of the way to ensure that true democracy, justice for all, and an inclusive future prevail.

This is the power of public education when parents, students, and educators join forces. This is the power of unity. #WeAreLA #UTLAstrong #Red4Ed

Tonight #UTLAStrong House of Reps voted 80% to endorse #BernieSanders, following the most comprehensive member engagement process UTLA ever conducted for a political candidate. Like UTLA, Sanders believes in building a national movement for lasting change. utla.net/news/utla-over…

LA flooded with public education supporters, demanding a reinvestment in our public schools. Not just a declaration and show of support for public education and teachers, but a rebuke of Beutner’s agenda to starve and privatize our schools. #LAUSDStrike #UTLAStrong #WeAreLA

Who is the coward, the teachers who dare confront government officials and powerful business to fight for the health of their students and families, or you who sit safely in your La Cañada mansion criticizing what apparently you don’t even understand: Teachers ARE working

TV/Movies don't happen without writers. Their strike is righteous. In a world where Studio CEOs make hundreds of millions, no writer should be living paycheck to paycheck. LA Public School Educators are with you @WGAWest @WGAEast! Join a picket line: bit.ly/3Vrj9MG
The Board of Directors of the @WGAWest and the Council of the @WGAEast, acting upon the authority granted to them by their memberships, have voted unanimously to call a strike, effective 12:01 AM, Tuesday, May 2.

Our movement is winning, the billionaires are scared. Check out senator @NinaTurner shouts out LA teachers in our fight against privatization. Only through UNITY can we have real and lasting change. #NotMeUs #Bernie2020 #UTLAstrong

Free speech teaching moment! Yesterday, a Kennedy High School student was fired by the school principal from doing the school announcements after she simply said, "We stand with you teachers." The community stands behind her and demands her reinstatement. #RespectOurStudents
