- Today is a day for hope. After years of conflict, we have signed an agreement with the Taliban that achieves US objectives and puts Afghanistan on a path to peace.
- While #Pakistan has made constructive contributions on the #AfghanPeaceProcess, PM Khan's comments did not. The future of #Afghanistan is for #Afghans, and only Afghans, to decide. The role of the international community is to encourage Afghans to come together so they can do so.
- We condemn ISIS and yesterday’s heinous attack on a Kabul wedding hall that killed scores of innocent Afghan families who had gathered to celebrate what was meant to be a joyous occasion.
- Saddened by the news of Sushma Swaraj's passing. I had the opportunity to engage her on several occasions. Always gracious, she served #India with distinction. I offer my condolences.
- Many scholars believe that the deeper meaning of Eid al-Hadha is to sacrifice one's ego. Leaders on all sides of the war in Afghanistan must take this to heart as we strive for peace. My very best wishes.
- Just finished a working lunch with Mullah Beradar and his team. First time we’ve met. Now moving on to talks.
- Just finished up in #Islamabad. Met w/ PM @ImranKhanPTI, FM Qureshi & COAS Gen Bajwa. We discussed the PM's Washington visit & what comes next. I briefed them on #AfghanPeaceProcess. We discussed Pakistan's role in support of the process & additional positive steps they can take.
- The USG has assessed ISIS-K conducted the horrific attacks on a maternity ward and a funeral earlier this week in Afghanistan. ISIS has demonstrated a pattern for favoring these types of heinous attacks against civilians and is a threat to the Afghan people and to the world.
- 1/3 After six days in Doha, I'm headed to #Afghanistan for consultations. Meetings here were more productive than they have been in the past. We made significant progress on vital issues.
- 1/5 Our war in Afghanistan is over. Our brave Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and Airmen served with distinction and sacrifice to the very end. They have our enduring gratitude and respect.
