Governor, with all due respect, the threat of being sued is nothing compared to the threat of kids getting sick and dying. I will not let that happen on my watch. I ask that you join me in this stance.
Any school district, public university, or local government official that decides to defy GA-38—which prohibits gov't entities from mandating masks—will be taken to court. The path forward relies on personal responsibility—not government mandates. bit.ly/GA38Defense

UPDATE: After today’s court hearing, the requirement to wear masks in Travis County and Austin businesses remains in effect.

NEW: Our mask order will stand. Now, district judges in Dallas & Travis Counties have upheld the right of local leaders to protect the safety of our kids & community. The Governor's order to prevent counties, cities, & schools from protecting our children has been blocked.

NEW: @MayorAdler & I signed orders requiring masks in public schools and county/city buildings. With our kids back in school next week, our community & public health officials have called on us to take this reasonable measure. This will protect countless lives & keep us safe.

America, we need your help. There are lots of folks who have no drinking water, boiled or otherwise. We are working hard to get more into the county and need your help until it gets here. STARTING NOW, please bring sealed bottled water donations to Northeast Early College High.
We need commercially sealed bottled water donations starting now at: Northeast Early College High School 7104 Berkman Dr
Austin, TX 78752. Water must be bottled.

You must be able to unload it.

We will have staff on-site to receive it & security to watch it.

If you have water and an 18 wheeler, DM us for different instructions.

At just over 5% of our county fully vaccinated, this is not the time to say this pandemic is over. Travis County — keep wearing your mask to keep each other safe.

The mask requirement will continue in our county. Today, the Commissioners Court voted to follow the rules set by the health authority. We will require masks in businesses & declare a place a public health nuisance if it fails to follow these rules. Let's keep each other safe.

I will continue to listen to our public health authority, medical professionals, and the CDC, who have consistently said masks save lives. It’s unfortunate the attorney general is once again failing to make the health of our community his priority.

    Replying to @TravisCoJudge
Thank you to our County Attorney @DGTCAttorney and team for fighting to keep our community safe

Texans deserve fast, frequent, and reliable transit. Today, I’m supporting @TexasCentral and @Amtrak and asking them to include Travis County in their high-speed rail project. Texas needs a passenger rail system that connects our largest communities – including Austin.🧵
Andy Brown calls on Texas Central and Amtrak to include Travis County in high speed rail project.

We will not stop protecting children, especially those under 12 who are not yet eligible to receive a vaccine.
NEW: @TravisCoJudge Andy Brown reacting to the Texas Supreme Court order today:
"Until we end up in litigation directly with the governor, we’re going to keep our requirement that public schools require masks in place." — Travis County Judge Andy Brown

Water Update: We’re getting water in from all over the country, and it’s first going out to shelters where folks can go get a bottle or two. We’re currently setting up water distribution sites around the county & will be releasing more details tonight/early tomorrow on those.
