High praise. When one gains the respect of (or criticism from) those whose opinion one has deep respect for, what else matters on social media?

Same as I recommend to everyone. Read like a textbook, slowly, making sure that you understand each point. Less a book and more a school of philosophy. The Sovereign Child is an offshoot. Accompany with @ToKTeacher podcasts. The Beginning of Infinity a.co/d/aVrmpfE

It seems ironic an institution that (yes, that traditionally values discipline and conformity) puts a premium on unit cohesion, brotherhood and a “leave no man behind” attitude simultaneously is instructed to pretend to ignore a fallen comrade in *that* situation. Weird.

In a dynamic society (like ours) the last reason anyone should seek political office (authority!) at any level is “to make a difference”. While the first reason should be to protect the mechanisms in place so others (scientists, artists, entrepreneurs, etc) can.

In early 2019 @BretWeinstein made some remarkably prescient remarks at the end of the documentary by @MikeNayna . This well encapsulates the dangers of not merely false but bad philosophy in academia. Just 2 minutes. Full documentary here: youtube.com/playlist?list=…

In a world near fully automated by AI, the only thing that can never be automated is explanatory creativity. People will never be made redundant.

A resource is only so once we create the knowledge that it is. Eg: uranium. Before nuclear physics was discovered in the 20th century pitchblende was a useless rock. Now it's an ore. Resources are unlimited *because* we can always learn of more and how to do more with less.

"some guy" - well, yes literally true. But he was an archeologist so had much more relevant background knowledge than "some guy"/random person aimlessly browsing google maps 😉 This is why "serendipity" in science is often over-egged: bretthall.org/serendipity-in… Great story though!

Also proof that life doesn’t exist. Or people. Or cats. Come to think of it basically anything that’s more complex than a molecule.

🙏 There are increasingly many ways to learn about the deepest of the optimistic worldviews presently known. Where it is best to *end up* is by reading “The Beginning of Infinity” by @DavidDeutschOxf . You might even begin there too. Or:

🧵How we’ll really find alien life. Never mind grainy pictures of flying saucers or finding bacteria on Mars. The most promising way of detecting life elsewhere will be seen in spectra of light from distant stars passing through the atmospheres of planets orbiting them.
