Professor of Criminology & Social Policy, LSE. These days tweets mainly music-related (Everton FC & crime interests also). MD ANT. Also @[email protected]
Criminologists, our colleague, @JoPhoenix1, is suing her employer, the Open University, for failure to protect her from bullying. She needs your support. This affects everyone working in universities today. Crowdfunder is here crowdjustice.com/case/harassed-…
Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby: “Those who serve will be loved and remembered longer than those who cling to power and privilege are long forgotten”.
Dear academics, please try not to tweet about (World) university rankings. Such things are divisive and reductive. They have much more to do with wealth than scholarship. We should all know better.
As anyone following me may have figured I'm now in treatment for a serious health problem. This has meant standing back from work at LSE. My colleagues are kindly organising a celebration for me on March 2nd: lse.ac.uk/social-policy/…. Do share. Do keep in touch (email is good)
My regular opportunity to say please don't do this. League tables are divisive & agin everything universities should stand for. And, just in case my institution hadn't noticed, while you're tweeting this, most of the UK sector is on strike because of the damage being caused
📣 We've done it again! 👏👏👏 We've been ranked top in Europe – and second in the world – in social science and management! #qswur

I was only in Hong Kong for 3 days but I think it's fairly easy to spot the limitations of the IPCC's report. Moreover, was visited in London by Mr Neoh last year; fair to say I wouldn't describe it as a 'dialogue'
Not published yet (12th September) but delighted to finally have a physical copy of this. There was a time when I didn’t think I’d be around to see it. Thanks to all - family, friends, criminologists and oncologists - who helped make it possible
I agree entirely that current Met conduct appears indefensible. However, anyone thinking it is somehow completely out of character really hasn’t been following policing over the past half century or more #orgreave#Hillsborough#JFT97#stephenlawrence
I sincerely hope @guardian that if you are going to publicise this shameful grandstanding that you will, before long, publish a more thoughtful and thorough analysis of the political context of sentencing and release. I'm sure my colleagues who work in this field can help you out
'I started blogging as a way of getting back into writing after the traumatic experience of doing a PhD. PhD work bullies one into the idea that you can't say anything about any subject until you've read every possible authority on it'. Mark Fisher - k-punk. #phdchat
