Those saying Ethiopia will crumble like Yugoslavia are wrong. Yugoslavia was a country created by WWI’s winners while the Ethiopian nation evolved over 2,000 years of history and has overcome many previous crises. Once peace returns it will thrive again.

Can someone explain why Africa sends its valuable raw materials and minerals to China to be transformed and sold back, instead of doing the value added in Africa; especially when millions of Africans are unemployed or under-employed?

Only in Nigeria-can bandits take over the nation's largest military training facility. Anywhere else in the world this would be obviously "fake news", but in Nigeria even the most absurd and outrageous is possible. When will nation get decent Government? premiumtimesng.com/regional/north…

I follow the passionate discussion on the #GERD with interest. But the fundamental truth is - a country which does not contribute one drop of water to the Nile (#Egypt) - cannot demand 100% of the right to decide how the waters should be used by all. The world has changed.

As Kenyan President Kenyatta said at PM Abiy's swearing-in: "So for all of us on the continent Ethiopia is our mother. And as we all know if the mother is not at peace, neither that can the family be at peace.." Praying peace comes back soon to the great nation!

Forever grateful to #Ethiopia and Ethiopians for incredible support to America and our Embassy on and after the dark days of Sep 11, 2001 – when I was Ambassador. From the highest Government officials to ordinary people the outpouring of kindness was beyond words. God bless you

Happy ሐበሻ New Year! (Hope my Ge’ez is correct!) May 2014 bring back peace, stability, an end to the pandemic, and a renewal of economic growth to all the GHOA lands, and may God touch all human hearts towards that end.

Congrats to Ethiopian PM Abiy for appointing such a diverse cabinet. Especially key will be new Min Edu Berhanu Nega given country’s huge youth population and focus on building up university system. Praying peace coming soon.

Just did long interview on #Aljazeera TV, mostly on #GERD. My main point was that #Egypt needs an attitude readjustment to current realities. The 1929 and 1959 treaties to which #Ethiopia was not even a party make no sense in 2022. If Egypt is realistic, negotiations can succeed.

Melkam Addis Amet - Beselam Adersachu to all celebrating New Year today. May God grant the region peace and rain next year.

#GERD second turbine now generating electricity takes dam’s progress to new level. #Egypt can issue statements but facts on the ground matter most. Better to negotiate on realities than emotions.

So sad to hear of the passing of Ethiopian musician "Elvis" Alemayehu. The world's loss is Heaven's gain - where the music will no doubt improve!

OK - so why did #TPLF forces break into a World Food Program warehouse in Makelle (#Tigray) and steal 12 fuel tankers with 570,000 liters of fuel?! Is that pursuing peace?! media.un.org/en/asset/k1w/k…

I have high hopes for the incoming Trump administration's Africa policy. Hopefully we'll drop the megaphone and hypocritical lectures and engage on issues of real common interest that genuinely benefits Africans - especially the youth. And credits Somaliland for their progress!
