He is the highest paid coach in our field & he has done it without being a Douche Donkey. He doesn’t get the most talented, he develops it. You don’t win games by barking & doing endless jumping jacks on the sidelines. He wins games because his athletes are prepared to win games.
“As much as he wants you to be the best version of you physically, I think he wants to help get you to a point where you’re also a great man..." - Tristan Wirfs, Iowa OL See how Chris Doyle has impacted the Iowa football program since taking over as the strength coach in 1999.

13 weeks ago I was told to go make peace with my family, make sure my Will was in order & contact Hospice. Then I could only high bar squat the bar for 3. 8 weeks later I could do 95 lbs for multiple sets of 3. Today I hit 205 for 3 on quarter squats. #Unbreakable

5 weeks ago I had trouble breathing trying to walk normal around the cul-da-sac. Today I carried a 40 lb bag around! No matter how bad you feel you have to MOVE to beat Stage 4 Cancer! #Unbreakable

After being diagnosed with cancer I made the fatal mistake of trying to fight it alone and not telling anyone. I was WRONG! This has been a community fight since I let people in. I want to thank God, wife, family, friends, UH Staff, coaches & athletes for the insane support! 🖤

Grappling inspired drills have been in my programming for over 10 years. I do not feel this is contact prep, no momentum or collision. But it is sound lineman conditioning paired with heavy sled work. Progress to 10 reps each with varied work/rest ratios.

Very unpopular view that i have in S&C coaching: Most coaches live in the weight room with this lifting false bravado but shrink like testicles in ice water teaching on the field. Want respect from your athletes, cleat-up & teach every modality on the field!

The Zercher Squat has been around since the 1930’s. It was developed by Ed Zercher who was a strongman that didn’t have a rack; so he deadlifted the wt off the floor in the crook of his arms to squat it. That’s 90 years ago TweeterVille, it’s not a new lift!

Our starting center squatting 725. Does he need to be this strong to play the game? No. Does this make him better at his position? No. Should we spend more time on special strength & skill acquisition? Hell to the yes!

Sophomore guard Josh Motes hitting Zercher Pause Squats on our 2nd lift of our 1st training block of 2020. Staying with Zerchers until our wrist heal up from the season and we get our mobility back before we front squat & clean again.

WR’s need not only speed but an acceptable amount of strength and body armor to withstand the brutality of the game. Still working on rack mobility before we move on to jerks.
