These catcher initiated timing picks are becoming an almost nightly occurrence. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… if you’re not incorporating these into your games, you should be! #catcherslife #catcherscamp #thelifeofacatcher

Here is a portion of @Angels catcher Logan O’Hoppe’s pregame warm up & receiving routine. I personally loved how the first 8-10 reps, after he put mitt on, he simply “paddled the ball” keeping his mitt open allowing the ball to drop after contact… (Cont.)

Every base matters. Every run matters. Lead by example. Be a gamer like Austin Hedges! #thelifeofacatcher #catcherstraining #catcherscamp

Check out this timing pick at 1st base initiated by catcher. We have whole field in front of us so why not. We can see what pitcher can’t so we can help w/ timing. Notice, 1st of all, how Jansen is peaking over watching runner & then how he swipes dirt letting P know “now.”

If you’re not incorporating this timing pick into your arsenal, you should be! Notice Bailey staring at runner. He’s waiting for the runner to look down, check his distance from 1st base, look toward 2nd &/or take a step toward 2nd. Once he sees that, he drops the mitt. (Cont)

IMO, big difference maker w/ receiving ability is strength. Gotta be able to move mitt quickly, “hit the breaks” & control ball. Here’s a few receiving specific exercises we do at camp 1. Windshield Wipers, 2. Band Resisted Abduction & Adduction, 3. Weighted Ball Figure 8’s.

Here is another great example of a pregame catchers routine. This is Tanner Swanson with @D1catching doing his thing with AA prospect Brian Navaretto. You don’t need to do too much... around 8-10 reps of each and you’ll be dialed and game ready. #thelifeofacatcher

THREAD- Our job as a catcher is to increase the probability of getting a strike called. Getting the mitt outside pitches on the edge so it’s moving toward the strike zone during the reception is a great way to increase that probability. Watch the slo-mo closely…
