Texas AFT will no longer post information to X. A union is a democracy & we always find value in dialogue with those who disagree. But X goes beyond that. A billionaire with one thumb on the scales of power & the other on global communication should concern us all.

Our deepest thanks to those 84 for voting for your districts and the public schools within them.
Got em: On a vote of 84 to 63, the Texas House strips vouchers from HB1. Here's the vote sheet #txlege

Texas teachers are not getting a raise in a state with a $33 billion budget surplus. #TxLege #TxEd

Texas: 9th largest economy in the world, 39th in the country for public school funding. Until that changes, no one in the #TxLege has fulfilled their campaign promises to educators & parents. Thank you, Rep. @ginaforaustin, for speaking truth. 👏

“Education is a public good, not a private one. Our kids deserve better than fly-by-night crooks who open for-profit schools on the quick & cheap with uncertified teachers & no standards. That’s what we’re seeing in other states w/ bloated, unaccountable voucher programs" #txlege

You think gas prices are bad? Try retiring as a teacher in Texas. Many retired educators have NEVER received a cost-of-living increase for their pensions, while others have gone nearly a decade without one. #TxLege could've fixed that in any of last year's four sessions ...

When 66% of our members say they're thinking of leaving their jobs in public education, it's time for a leadership change. Our union endorses @BetoORourke for governor because he's pledged to do what Gov. Abbott won't: listen to educators & work with them on real issues. #TxEd

Governor, you've got a real funny way of rewarding the best teachers in the nation.
Texas teachers are among the BEST in the nation. A quality education is the foundation for our children’s success. It requires dedicated teachers who motivate students to learn and grow. Our educators are fundamental in building brighter futures for the next generation.

    The Wordle today is brutal.
The letter grid for a Wordle game. Instead of guessing five-letter words, we have spelled out the following sentence across the lines: "Texas Needs Fully Funded Classrooms."

Wondering why your prop taxes keep going up but your local public school doesn't see any new resources? $32.7 billion of YOUR tax dollars are being hoarded by @GovAbbott while he tries to push private school vouchers. Underfund, demonize, privatize. #txlege
TX MAGA Republicans are amassing & hoarding our taxpayer $ in anticipation of a massive payout to the wealthy & well-connected few thru a “taxpayer-funded voucher.” Meanwhile, schools are closing & property taxes are rising across Texas because MAGA won’t do its job. #txlege

You want to defund public schools in Texas? You'll have to go through us first. #TxEd #TxLege

In the 86 days since a gunman killed 19 students and two teachers in Uvalde, Gov. Abbott has taken no meaningful action to reduce the chances of tragedy in this school year, earning straight F’s on our school safety report card. @MomsDemand texasaft.org/releases/repor…
Text says, "Report Card: Greg Abbott's Response to Uvalde. Teachers and kids are terrified to return to Texas classrooms because Governor Abbott failed to order any meaningful improvements for school safety. Respecting kids and educators starts with doing everything possible to make sure they come home safely at the end of the day." The report card features failing grades on the following items: call an emergency legislative session to address gun safety; demand the legislature raise the legal age for buying assault rifles from 18 to 21; hold Department of Public Safety officials accountable for waiting for 77 minutes to respond to the Uvalde shooter; comfort, support, and show sympathy for families when attending funerals of victims; do everything in his power to prevent another school tragedy."

✋Raise your hand if you would like to know how much voucher bill HB 1 would cost ISDs in your #TxLege district. Thanks to @EveryTxn & @IDRAedu, we know. And we're going to tell you. 🧵👇
