I just read three stories by three different writers—winning pieces; they read like they've been written by the same person. I'm not saying they were written by the same person. They weren't. But it seems only one particular style of writing is currently being prioritised. 1/2

The other day I saw a video (IG reel) of a woman being thrown off a balcony for dowry. Based on the description, it was a Muslim family. You need to understand that Hindu traditions/texts has no room for dowry. Stridhan is a very different thing.

Or maybe it's MFA style writing, who knows. Point is, if every writer is supposed to sound the same, where is the diversity in literature? Our racial and cultural and gender identities being different are enough? Does real diversity not bleed through the way we narrate?

It's a little unnerving because it seems the expectation is, every writer from different parts of the world, must essentially follow this style to be taken seriously. Don't be bragging about being inclusive when you do this. American style of writing is not all there is. 2/2

So, I'm too young a writer to have a Pushcart nomination, but I was curious about it nonetheless and I Googled it. I believe most people have read that blog by some John Fox and I am not gonna talk about it. This comment from a Mark, however, needs to be on my TL.

I'm officially starting research work for my first novel which is going to be a historical fiction with elements of magic realism. 🤍 Meanwhile, I'll still write short stories, flashes, micros, a couple of poems, but they may be less in number. :)

I know this is not an acceptance. But, for me, @MekongReview saying they're interested in my story and holding it for further consideration, is huge. Whatever the outcome, this itself is cause for my little heart going wheeeeeeeee! 🙈
