Following the tragedy of their city, young people in #Beirut took to the streets, supporting their communities by cleaning the streets, & by providing food & water to the victims.
These are are the future of Lebanon, and they need our solidarity & support. #InternationalYouthDay
On my recent trip to Syria, it was evident that 9years of brutal fighting brought the country to the brink. Sadly, active conflict continues in several locations with severe consequences on children.
The killing of children must stop. #NotATarget#Syria9uni.cf/2xw5ZHd
Today I am in Adré at the Chad-Sudan border where the magnitude of the humanitarian crisis is shocking and it’s getting worse every day. @UNICEF and its partners are working tirelessly to address the urgent needs of some 260,000 Sudanese refugees fleeing the conflict in Darfur.
Despite the incredible challenges they face, Syria’s children and young people show us the definition of perseverance and resolve. We will continue to be there for them & the host communities, and we count on the international community’s generous support.
This baby has a congenital heart condition and can't get treatment. Children in Gaza, including those held hostage, urgently need access to life-saving supplies and services, and aid workers need to safely access children in need.
This week I returned to #Sudan as I have many times over the last 25 years. It remains a country where reoccurring violence and displacement is a part of life. Amidst the conflict it was inspiring to see our humanitarian partners continue to stay & deliver life-saving services.
The transitional government in #Sudan has criminalized the FGM practice. This comes after years of persistent, hard work and advocacy by many.
As we celebrate this landmark move, we remember the need to continue the struggle to #EndFGM.
@UNICEFSudan
Today I addressed the urgent crisis in #Sudan. Thousands of children have been killed or injured in the past year & the situation has crossed a critical tipping point. We need unimpeded humanitarian access, security assurances from all sides, and a UN presence across the country.
Nearly 80,000 children lost their homes and are displaced due to the #BeirutExplosions. Some children have been separated from family members; some of whom are still missing.
Our teams on the ground are supporting their reunification with their families. uni.cf/2DxcaOB
"UNICEF is coordinating very closely with authorities and partners on the ground to respond to the needs including of health and other front-line workers. Over the coming days, we will increase our efforts to reach families in need." #Beirut@yukiemokuo
Over the past two days, 37 Palestinian children have been injured and arrested in East Jerusalem.
We call on all parties involved wherever they are to prevent any further escalation and protect all civilians especially children. My statement with @LelmiU: uni.cf/2RACdew
Yesterday in #Beirut, we visited this school in the Achrafieh neighborhood.
It is one out of 120 schools that got damaged due to the #BeirutExplosions from 4 August, impacting 55,000 children.
