If you didn't grow up in Scotland then you might not know that PE/Gym class in December is mostly just ceilidh dancing! Somehow those steps still manage to appear out of a forgotten corner of the brain while drunk at a wedding 15 years later...

I've got some devastating news to share, I lost my best friend earlier this week. Life will never be the same, she's been by my side on countless adventures over the last 14 years. I wouldn't be this if it wasn't for Molly and I know she touched a lot of hearts around the world

This is a tale of two very different gravestones, both at Kilmuir on Skye. Most visitors to this graveyard are distracted by the monumental cross dedicated to Flora MacDonald but these two deserve closer inspection.

With a new series of Shetland starting last night, it's time to give you a wee bit of history about the famous Lerwick home of Jimmy Perez in the show. In real life, it's known as "The Lodberrie" and gives us a glimpse back in time to 18th century Lerwick.

Welcome to Kilchurn Castle, I couldn't think of a better snap for #Coosday today! Kilchurn was originally a towerhouse built on a little island in Loch Awe by a younger branch of the Campbells in the mid 15th century.

Stop driving and take a closer look at that cairn! In 1746, after the Battle of Culloden, the government general Cumberland triumphantly sent the head of Bonnie Prince Charlie down to London and called off the hunt for the Young Pretender. However, it wasn't actually his head.

Today is the Winter Solstice, the shortest day and the longest night in deepest, darkest winter. This event was once so important, those who lived in Scotland thousands of years ago had to mark it in some way. That's one of the theories behind our ancient stone circles.

Yesterday, Molly and I explored an abandoned village in the Highlands near sunset. This is the Old Village of Lawers on the north bank of Loch Tay. People lived on this spot for over 750 years, either side of the rushing Lawers burn in the shadow of the mountain Ben Lawers. 🧵

Happy Halloween! Forget pumpkins and trick-or-treating, in Scotland we carve neeps and go guising! This isn't the modern, American celebration that people often believe. Halloween's roots are the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain which begins when the sun goes down.

This is the burial place of Scottish Kings and Clan Chiefs - The Reilig Odhraìn on the Isle of Iona. Found right beside Iona Abbey, this wee spot has been used as far back as the 7th century, becoming one of the most sacred places in Scotland
