My next book is NIGHTS IN WHITE CASTLE, a memoir of high school, college and leaving home in the 1980s. It answers the question, “Whatever happened to that kid from Sting-Ray Afternoons?” Judge this one by its gorgeous cover. Available for pre-order now. amazon.com/Nights-White-C…

If he walked a third time on this play, you’d have to call it.

Kobe & Gigi sat with us at a UConn game in March. He somehow talked to our kids as his basketball equals. Told our 10yo, “Keep getting after it, Thomas.” To our tall daughter: “Posting up is the BEST.” He was a Dad with his lovely daughter on a day out. We’re heartsick tonight.

Watching NBA game. Daughter: “What’s that half circle in the lane?” Me: “You can’t take a charge inside it.” Wife: “Unless the play originated in the lower defensive box or you’re the primary defender.” Me: [Sigh]

Dementia robbed him of memory and he no longer recognized close friends, but sportswriter Jim Caple could still summon three names: "Willie Mays," "Novak Djokovic" and--most often--"Sue Bird." Why? A beautiful life in three GOATs. si.com/mlb/2023/10/10… via @SInow

Playing hoops with my son in the driveway. “Mind if we watch?” says a guy walking by with his wife. “There aren’t any games on TV.”

Took kids to ⁦@smithsonian⁩ ⁦@amhistorymuseum⁩ and saw Lincoln’s top hat, Dorothy’s slippers and—a surprise to all of us—Mom’s jersey. 16-year-old: “Well, that’s weird.”

Astros-Rays series at Minute Maid Park and Tropicana Field would be a victory for Big Pulp.
