Today I learned this will be my last week working at the paper I grew up reading. Telling the stories of high school athletes all across Western PA has truly been a privilege and a joy. Thank you all for following along for the ride. I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did ✌️

ESPN ranked Sidney Crosby as the 19th-best player in the NHL playoffs… he has nine points in 3+ games so far lol

That’s Zach Randolph AKA Z-Bo — one of the most ruthless and intimidating players to ever step foot in the NBA

Who says you can’t share some wholesome family bonding time while battling each other for the Steelers’ starting QB job? Surely not Mitch Trubisky and Kenny Pickett:

Oh. My. Goodness. Are you kidding me? “Sky High” Makhai Valentine with one of the greatest game-winning shots you’ll ever see. Takes it the length of the court in just six seconds and buries a cold-blooded 3-pointer at the buzzer for a 56-54 win. Was there ever any doubt?

This middle stat is absurd: Antonio Brown has more receiving yards in the last five minutes of the 4th quarter than the No. 2 and 3 receivers combined. Teams know what's coming but they can't stop it.

Postgame victory speeches are easy. You really find out what a coach is all about when they address their team after a crushing defeat. Take 70 seconds out of your day to listen to Donta Green’s message to Westinghouse after a season-ending 24-7 loss vs. Farrell. Powerful stuff:

Steelers rookie QB Kenny Pickett speaks about his practice performance while back in familiar territory on the South Side. Pickett tossed a nice TD on a back-corner fade to Tyler Vaughns during “7 shots” and also had success throwing to rookie TE Connor Heyward in team drills:

FINAL SCORE: Aliquippa 34, Bishop McDevitt 27. Absolute classic. The Quips do the unthinkable and win the PIAA Class 4A state title as a Class 1A-sized school. Mike Warfield tried his best to escape the Gatorade shower, but eventually they got him. What a scene:

Finally, hear it straight from the man himself — McKeesport’s Kemon Spell says he is no longer 100% committed to Penn State, and his recruitment is up in the air right now. Spell says he has upcoming visits planned to Georgia and Notre Dame. Where will the superstar RB land? 🔮

Just because Aliquippa lost doesn’t mean we can’t take a moment to appreciate what Mike Warfield has done in five years at his alma mater: - 60-6 overall - Five WPIAL championship appearances - Three WPIAL titles - Three PIAA championship appearances - Two state titles Amazing.

I find it funny how Steelers fans who went to/root for Pitt have no problem cheering for Pat Freiermuth, yet Steelers fans who went to/root for PSU are having an existential crisis while coming to terms with the realization that Kenny Pickett is actually good

NA coach Art Walker on the Tigers’ matchup vs. mighty St. Joe’s Prep in the PIAA Class 6A title game: “Our guys are from a community. They’ve got guys who don’t have mailing addresses in PA. There’s a drastic difference. But we believe in each other. We believe in our program.”

FINAL SCORE: Aliquippa 60, Dallas 14. Quips put on a performance for the ages to capture their fifth state title and complete their first perfect season in their long and storied history, finishing 14-0 as a Class 1A-sized school. They’re now your Class 4A state champs — again:
