- True story: Caterpillar parked a trailer outside a local trade show. I went in, sat down in the simulator seat, and had a great time driving a simulated bulldozer. Full throttle bouncing over berms, etc. Until the PR rep came in and freaked out. I wasn’t playing a simulator. II will do this for free.
- Doctor phoned in an antibiotic: doxycycline 50mg tablets, qty. 28. Drugstore price, with BlueCross insurance: $358. For a generic antibiotic! I yelped in protest. Pharmacist suggested I ask the doc to switch to doxycycline 50mg CAPSULES, qty. 28. Identical medication. Price:
- I don’t mind admitting I’m crying. Just like when the two Falcon Heavy boosters landed in tandem. There is a timeline in which @elonmusk went broke after a fourth failed Falcon 1 attempt, and in which we are still stuffing astronauts into Soyuz capsules. Instead, we get to live
- Replying to @elonmuskADONo. Awkward in conversation, impossible to search for, and has zero brand equity after two years of trying. Bring back Twitter as the brand, let X be the holding company.
- Replying to @histoftechTen-foot iPhone cable next to the bed.
- I spoke to a GS-15 in a Federal agency yesterday. They’ve been working from home since COVID. No change in plans. Their leadership call said “just ignore the ‘return to office’ mandate, keep doing your jobs, and this will all get overturned in the courts.” It's a bold strategy.
- Replying to @EM_RESUSWhen I was ten, my dad “felt funny” at dinner. My mom wrestled him into an ambulance over his vociferous objections. He had a massive heart attack in the ER. If he hadn’t been there, he’d have died at the dinner table, and I would have grown up without a father. Thanks, Mom!
- Replying to @EricFinkTVSo now the data centers will be built outside the Tucson city limits, with no city oversight, and no city tax revenues. A solution worse for the city in every way. But people get to feel good about sticking it to those evil capitalists. Great job, everybody.
- Replying to @alex_gayerYou know, Enterprise will rent you a really nice Chrysler Pacifica minivan for about $500/week. More interior space, more cargo room, and you wouldn’t have wasted ten hours of your trip at charging stations. Keep the Model Y for daily use, rent a minivan for road trips!
- Replying to @antoniogmI got picked up by a Porsche Panamera once. Retired guy, probably late fifties. Said he liked people, and it got him out of the house. I suspect a variation of his wife saying “I married you for better or for worse, but not for lunch!” Driving Uber is healthier than hanging out
- NASA could do something completely different: “Here are the known locations of the 40 sample tubes on the Martian surface. The first U.S. entity to return ten tubes to Houston gets $3 billion, tax free. Second ten, $2B. Third ten: $1B. Final ten: $500M. A single team isNASA to look for new options to carry out Mars Sample Return program spacenews.com/nasa-to-look-f…
- Yes! FINALLY a prestigious astronomer is proposing putting an enormous telescope monolithic mirror into a SpaceX payload bay, rather than unfolding like the JWST origami project. (I’ve had fights about this for years.)
- Replying to @TheDrugMoneyNever buy a new car. Let someone else take the depreciation hit.
