    Incredible to say it, but we are discussing the consent of a new deep coal mine in the UK, despite all that has been said in recent years about the phase out coal. This is a very bad decision – supporting a technology of the past, with a very poor prospectus for new UK jobs.

    In my house, I ‘urge’ my kids to put their shoes on before I later ‘request’ that they do so (expressing my alarm and utmost concern). But in the end, I usually have to ‘demand’ it.

    Some news *gulp*. I’ve decided to move on from @theCCCuk after six amazing years and more than 100 publications. I’ve worked on energy and climate policy for 13 years now. I joined the civil service 20 years ago. I’d like to see a different side to the climate challenge.

    Absolutely brilliant news for Glasgow (the best wee city in the world). Delighted to see my home city host COP26 next year. All the more reason to get cracking on some world leading policies to match the Net-Zero ambition.
