A large gaping coronal hole is currently stretching across the SE quadrant. It will begin to face Earth this weekend a CH stream should reach our planet by December 4th. Another round of geomagnetic storming will be possible.

A slow eruption beginning after 10:00 UTC today (Nov 9) near center disk appears to have launched a halo coronal mass ejection (CME) directly towards Earth. An impact past Earth will be possible within the next 48-72 hours. More detailed information to follow.

A severe geomagnetic storm continues with the Kp index nearing the Extreme (G5) storm threshold. Aurora is happening now across many locations even at lower latitudes where it is dark outside.

First Look at the coronal mass ejection (CME) produced by the X2.2 solar flare courtesy of STEREO Ahead. Although hard to tell in this image, the eruption is full halo and does appear to have an Earth directed component. Stay tuned for Earth facing LASCO imagery.

While all eyes have been on sunspots, I for one have been monitoring this large filament channel now directly facing Earth. A series of dense, plasma filled filaments stretching over 500,000 km remains magnetically anchored in place for now. Should one of more of these

A giant blob of plasma was ejected off of the Sun last night following the M4.4 solar flare off the southeast limb. Here the planet Earth is inserted for an approximate size reference. Feeling small yet? Imagery by the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO).
