Another cougar sighting! We captured this video early this morning, a few miles east of Snoqualmie. This is the 2nd cougar to use the I-90 wildlife undercrossing structures but not the first animal to ring in the new year. We saw a couple coyotes & a hare yesterday.
Could you imagine traveling like this across Snoqualmie Pass? This is from 1928. It's a good reminder of how far we have come. It's also a good reminder to always be prepared when traveling across the pass. We have snow in the forecast. Pls know before you go.
Let's be frank - It's not OK to ignore traction requirements or think you don't need to chain up when required. Those choices can lead to fatalities, and at the very least messes with your life & other people's lives. STOP IGNORING TRACTION REQUIREMENTS UP HERE!
The cameras are down due to a power outage. As you can see by my picture, the highway is bare and wet and the sky is cloudy. Have a wonderful day everyone 😀
I see a big-o silhouetto of a mammal,
𝗦𝗽𝗼𝘁 𝗮 𝗺𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲, spot a moose, will you eat a native willow?
Wildlife and crossings, very, very enlightening me

Although we aren't officially done with the wildlife overcrossing (that happens this fall), wildlife are still using it to cross over I-90. We are now seeing deer! So exciting!
I think Bigfoot is making the rounds across our mountain passes. @wsdot_east showed him on Sherman Pass the other day and now he is on the wildlife overcrossing on I-90 just east of Snoqualmie Pass. #doyoubelieve

I-90 Snoqualmie Pass wildlife overcrossing
• 1,775 Elk, 163 Coyote, 84 Deer & 3 Hare.
• 5,615 animal crossing on ALL the I-90 crossing structures in 2024.
• 31,396 animals on ALL the I-90 crossing structures in eleven years.
The I-90 wildlife crossings are bursting with activity. Last month, we recorded over 900 animals (up by 136 from May 2020) using the structures with many deer fawns and elk calves.
This is what our crews are dealing with on Snoqualmie and White passes - large snow drifts, avalanche danger, falling trees, and large amounts of snow on signs. It's too dangerous for crews to go in and assess and another round of snow is expected in the next 24 hours.
