Loyalty is a fine thing Nadine Dorries but Mr Johnson was not removed by ‘a coup’. He was forced to resign when too many of his Ministers and backbenchers like myself made it plain that we were no longer prepared to tolerate his casual relationship with the truth.

- I believe that the PM has misled the HoC’s from the despatch box. That is a resignation issue. I have made my own position clear. It is now a matter for my Conservative parliamentary colleagues to decide whether or not to instigate a vote of no confidence.
- The Home Secretary said yesterday that a visa centre had already been set up in Calais. This was untrue and under any normal administration that would be a resigning matter.
00:00 - We need to remember that Mr Johnson is still under investigation by the Privileges Committee for potentially misleading the House. Until that investigation is complete and he is found guilty or cleared, there should be no possibility of him returning to Government.
- I have read with great care the letter that the PM has sent to all colleagues pleading for support in the ballot box tonight. With sadness I hold the view that the PM is not the fit and proper person to remain, in the interest of our country, as Prime Minister of the UK.
- While as a father and as a grandfather I fully appreciate Mr Cummings’ desire to protect his child. There cannot be one law for the Prime Minister’s staff and another for everyone else. He has sent out completely the wrong message and his position is no longer tenable.
- The Home Secretary has misled the House of Commons. In response to my question yesterday she said “I have made it clear, in terms of the visa application centre that has now been set up en-route to Calais that we have staff in Calais.” 1/3
- So we now know the answer to the question that I posed yesterday: just fifty vivas granted to date and families turned back at Calais. A disgrace.
- The new Home Secretary’s dog-whistle response to illegal immigration may play well at a party conference but what is needed is a mature and realistic response to a very real international problem not a childish re-write of failed UKIP soundbites.
- Today I asked the Prime Minister why, during his time as Public Prosecutor, he declined to instigate a prosecution for rape and sexual abuse against Mohamed Al Fayed.
00:00 - Johnson “Over my dead body will there be a border in the Irish Sea” signed & campaigned on a ‘great’ withdrawal agreement drawn up by (Lord) Frost that contained exactly that. Now the Union of the UK is at risk. Are you prepared to take responsibility for this Prime Minister?
- If Mr Johnson fails to reach an acceptable trade agreement with the EU the Prime Minister will also have failed the people of the United Kingdom. As a lifelong member of the Conservative Party, I believe that Mr Johnson's position as Prime Minister would be untenable. 1/2
- Grim scenes outside Parliament today and disgraceful treatment of Sir Keir Starmer. All Members of Parliament have a right to go about our lawful business without intimidation. This, I fear, is the direct result of the deliberately careless use of language in the Chamber.
