Yoruba Identity was already known since the 1610s by a literate Berber called Ahmed Baba who travelled to Mali and wrote about d ethnicities he met there. Oyo did not become an Empire until AFTER the reign of Oluodo, the son of Obalokun in d late 1620s. It conquered Nupe 1st btw
