Just look at these salaries. A scientist after 11 years gets basic pay of 1,23,000. With DA, allowances might reach 2 lakhs or thereabouts. There’s a challenge with govt salaries, but this won’t attract the best talent.

Rhea is being subjected to a brutal, medieval witch-hunt. Doubly tragic that a large section of TV media is part of the mob inquisition. Next they would want her burnt at the stake. Shame on us, India...

As a child of the sixties, I’ve seen every crisis, incl 3 full wars, food shortages, calamities. This is our biggest post-Partition crisis & never has India seen a Govt missing in action like this. No control rooms to call, nobody accountable to reach. It’s a governance rout.

Ejected, beaten, bloodied, blindfolded, handcuffed, in enemy captivity... What do you say? This is my name, rank & religion. I’m not supposed to tell you anything else. Such courage, calm and professionalism it shows. You’re an inspiration to your countrymen Wg Cdr Abhinandan

Flawless registration on the Cowin website. Shots done in minutes. Within minutes of the shot, SMS arrived on the phone, with time & place the shot was administered, nurse’s name, reminder about the 2nd dose & the number to call in case of problems. Wonderfully efficient.

Ok guys, that was a true ‘senior’ moment and all of you say thank-you to me I gave you such a laugh in grim times. Of all of the dozens of memes I’ve seen though, this is my top of the pops (no pun intended)...

Celebrate the joy of 2 hockey teams in Olympic S-F, remember to send a humble thank-you note to Odisha and its CM @Naveen_Odisha ....For 6 years now, the not-so-rich state has sponsored & nursed both men and women's hockey teams. If only more states were to spend on sport..

A prime minister’s security must always be a fully non-partisan issue. All institutions of the state security machinery, whether at the Centre or the states, have to take full responsibility for it. What happened with PM Modi’s convoy in Punjab is an unforgivable lapse.

While we hope and pray for Salman Rushdie, we must never forget that India was the first to ban the book. It was a Congress govt with around 415 seats in Lok Sabha… So who planted the seeds of destruction of our secular polity...

It is simplistic to dismiss Deepika Padukone’s support at JNU as ‘movie promotion.’ She’s a mega star & knows the risks of boycotts/demonisation. Which is what the mighty Khans faced & retreated. Or why the great AB won’t speak. The fact is that Deepika simply has more courage

For all his fine oratory, this was by far the calmest, most measured & important speech Narendra Modi has delivered in his public life. This is just that juncture when India needs a mass leader who could speak sensitively, soberly, and inspirationally.

Sushant Singh Rajput’s death shows how Bollywood can be so unfair to the outsider... Because it is a brutally competitive game with no umpires, adjudicators or whistle-blowers.. I write from some first person experience.. #NationalInterest

Never seen a Modi Govt so defensive. The labour disaster has shaken it. Half of the 10+ hours over 5 days could’ve been compressed into a humble one line apology: “Sorry, we messed up. We are working at making amends.” Pathetic to go on asserting ‘we’ve already done so much.’
