Health Secretary backs Martha’s Rule giving right to 2nd opinion. SO refreshing that ⁦@DHSCgovuk⁩ acknowledge via Secretary of State that we need to learn lessons from other countries. No longer is NHS world leading with respect to #sepsis either.

This. This is not an isolated occurrence. I’m done with hiding from the vitriol when I acknowledge that there have been consequences.
The most upsetting thing you will watch today. How could we let this happen? 😡💔

It’s certainly busy in the NHS at the moment, with a combination of winter pressures and reduced staffing. Are any intensive care units overrun with COVID-19 patients at present? We’re certainly not, numbers remain reasonably manageable and FAR lower than a year ago. Just asking.

I haven’t admitted anyone seriously ill due to (rather than with) COVID-19 to intensive care in many, many months. I say this phenomenonologically. It’s simply true.

Do I think there’s going to be a #SecondWave now?

So, yes, we don’t yet know about omicron (weird name). But why do we always have to face the Armageddon scenario? Thus far, I’ve seen no difference in people I’ve treated in intensive care between the variants. The likelihood is that this one will be the same.

To the trolls who think they will break me. You will not. To the powers who think they have the right to control me. You do not. To the people who hope we will continue to fight their corner. We will.

I’m covering ICU on Christmas Day. Every year during the festive period we see a lot of people following deliberate and non-deliberate self harm, and a lot of suicide attempts. I can’t help thinking this year is going to be very much worse than ever.

Normal is the thing for me: society needs to return to enjoyment, to socialising freely, to freedom and love. That’s what we’re doing this for. Without that, we’re nothing.

I’ve just been notified that the charity’s received a call from an anonymous doctor asking that I stop ‘meddling in COVID’ as I’m only a sepsis expert. I’m not going to respond to intimidation, If people want to intelligently discuss my position they can contact me directly.

A number of people have been saying this for some time. We need to respect and fear the SARS-CoV-2 virus, but not at the expense of all other conditions. google.co.uk/amp/s/www.dail…

While I’m at it, I might as well say it. I think there are some health professionals who really don’t want this whole thing to stop because it has defined them. There, I’ve said it. I’m sorry to the wonderful health professionals out there, I don’t mean you.

Oh look... IMMUNITY IS A THING, at least for 6 months or so. Funny that, I mean who knew?! For immediate release from @OUHospitals & University of Oxford. Bloody well done.

I’ve spent the day with a highly respected, nationally renowned paediatric colleague from London. Her hospitals are absolutely NOT full of seriously ill children with COVID. They’re full of children with a wide assortment of other illnesses, including other viral illnesses.
