- I’ve known @NikkiHaley for 20 years. We started serving at the same time: me as gov chief of staff, she as SC House member. She’s risen from legislator to governor, to UN Ambassador, to prez candidate. Americans will learn what I know: she has the gravitas necessary for this run.
- .@thestate: “I can’t support a bill predicated on the assumption that the state has a duty to protect an egg from the moment it is fertilized by a sperm,” said state Sen. Tom Davis, R-Beaufort. “I’m uncomfortable arming government with that kind of power.” thestate.com/news/politics-…
- Impossible to overstate either the number of South Carolinians who support Ambassador/Governor @NikkiHaley or the intensity of that support. The rest of the country will find out what we in the Palmetto State already know: she is a no-holds-barred candidate who plays to win.
- .@thedispatch: Voter interest in @NikkiHaley is surging after she delivered a breakthrough debate performance. Since Wednesday evening, engagement with individuals, organizations, and social media platforms supporting Haley’s 2024 bid spiked 1,500 percent.
- .@washingtonpost: “@NikkiHaley won on brains and experience.” @WSJ: “Nikki Haley’s GOP Debate Truths.” @NRO: “Nikki Haley Treats You Like an Adult.” @dcexaminer: “Nikki Haley claimed the spotlight among crowd of screaming men.” @postandcourier: “Nikki Haley finds her moment.”
- My medical-cannabis bill (S. 150) just got set for special order in the South Carolina Senate, meaning no other bill can be considered until it gets a vote; debate starts next week on either Tuesday or Wednesday. I am beyond ready; see pic of my floor-debate binder. I can’t wait.
- A pro-life group delivered to my office a model of an anatomical spine with a note urging me to grow a spine and support a ban on abortion from the time a sperm fertilizes an egg. Extending the state’s jurisdiction to this intimate time and place is not something I will support.
- Our next POTUS must be an outsider, someone who’s not afraid to buck the leaders in both parties, take on the hardest fights and figure out how to get things done in an environment that, too often, prizes political attacks over results. That’s @NikkiHaley.
- I was privileged to know Josephine Wright, a multi-generational resident of Hilton Head Island and a steadfast defender of her property. She died yesterday at age 94, survived by four children, 40 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. RIP ❤️
- Credit to my friend and colleague, South Carolina state @RepRussellOtt, for his parliamentary skill yesterday in advancing S. 628, a bill that would allow pharmacists to dispense contraceptives without the necessity of women first obtaining a prescription from a physician.
- Drop as much mail on me as you want or can, I’m still not voting for an at-conception #abortion ban. Triggering the coercive power of the state into personal lives at the moment a male sperm fertilizers a female egg is terrible public policy fraught with terrible consequences.
- South Carolina Senate unanimously adopted my budget amendment authorizing $7.5 million for contraception and pre-natal counseling to patients eligible for Medicaid and other safety-net patients. Less unwanted pregnancies = less abortions. @newmorningsc @WRENetwork
- KY just became 38th state to legalize #MedicalMarijuana; NC is poised to be the 39th, and SC’s bill is on the state senate calendar awaiting debate. I stand ready to make the case to my colleagues, as I did successfully last year, when given the chance. @scsenategop @SCSenateDems
