131 years ago today, more than 250 Lakota people were slaughtered at Wounded Knee. My heart aches for those who were taken from us. This is part of the generational trauma we carry as Indigenous peoples and why I am so committed to the work ahead for healing and justice.

On Red Shawl Day, we bring attention to the relatives who are impacted by the missing and murdered Indigenous peoples crisis. It's a day of remembrance and of commitment to continue our quest for justice.

Until now, a voice like mine had never been at the table. Today I proudly wore my mocs to the White House as I joined the President and fellow cabinet members for the first day of the Tribal Nations Summit. #RockYourMocs

Today I couldn’t help but be emotional as I visited the homes of my ancestors at Mesa Verde National Park. I’m grateful to those who work to ensure that these sacred spaces are cared for and respected for future generations to experience.

As I traveled through @YellowstoneNPS last week, I was escorted by a group of bison, welcoming me to the park. I am grateful to the staff and park rangers who made my first trip back to Yellowstone as Secretary of the Interior informative, engaging, and wonderful.

On this day in 1890, nearly 300 Lakota people were slaughtered at Wounded Knee, S.D. by U.S. Army soldiers. I wept with descendants of that massacre at the Wounded Knee Memorial this past year. Our work to build a better future starts with acknowledging our tragic history.

We’re on the way to the Capitol for @POTUS’ first State of the Union address. After a historic year of investments to help our nation build back better, I look forward to hearing his vision for the year ahead. I am forever grateful to be a part of the Biden-Harris administration.

Later this week, I'll be in Utah to discuss the Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monuments. I'll meet with Tribes, elected federal, state and local leaders, and other stakeholders to discuss how we can be good stewards of these sacred landscapes.
