- I love the symbolism of the Czech/Slovak “šmigrust”, an Easter tradition. You whip a girl’s butt with a braided rod, sprinkle water over her, and she gives you painted eggs. The rod being clearly a phallic symbol and the latter symbolising egg being impregnated. Nature, new life.
