This post summarizes the biggest success and challenge of modern AI: it's succeeded through unprecedented scale empiricism and statistical correlation. That has massive impacts on what explaining and understanding -- and therefore governing -- these systems can mean.
Brilliant post by my friend ⁦⁦@nanli⁩ on Modern AI, radical empiricism, and human intelligence. “Artificial Intelligence is now on a diverging path from human intelligence.” worldpositive.com/the-new-intell…

Exciting to see progress on UAS flights in the US. Solving the regulatory problems would open up huge new industries in the US, and would really be a shot in the arm for US drone industry.

Looking forward to how this experiment plays out. Instant runoff voting has a lot of potential to reduce the nastiness in politics — when you want to be the second choice, attacking their first choice isn’t a great idea. Obviously requires more than 2 parties to be effective.
Polls close in an hour in Maine, where they're experimenting with "ranked-choice" voting. Under this system, voters can rank multiple candidates instead of just picking one, which continues until a candidate has reached majority support politi.co/2y3btt6
