- On behalf of @AUC_MoussaFaki, I welcome the commitment of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia & the TPLF to address common peace & security priorities for the benefit of the people of #Ethiopia, by signing the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement today in South Africa. 1/2
- Pleased with the successful conclusion of the AU Extraordinary Summit on #Terrorism and Unconstitutional Changes of Government with landmark decisions to effectively combat terrorrism and reverse the tide of coup d’états by improving governance & respect for constitutionalism.1/3
- At today’s #OAU/AU 60th anniversary commemoration, I intro’d my 16-month-old Fatima Mariam to Pan-Africanism & Multilateralism.We must collectively strive to realise #Agenda2063 to bequeath a better & peaceful Africa to the next generations like Fatima, the “Africa they Deserve”
- As we draw the curtain on 2022, it is gratifying to report the launch in Mekelle, Tigray, of the AU Monitoring, Verification and Compliance Mechanism for implementing the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement for the conflict in Northern #Ethiopia. 1/3
- Pleased to have successfully facilitated the emergency PSC meeting on the situation in Sudan. An immediate ceasefire, unhindered humanitarian access and resumption of dialogue are vital for the return to constitutional order. The guns must be silenced in Sudan 🇸🇩 !
- Pleased to have successfully steered the 2nd Senior Commanders Meeting betw FDRE & TPLF. Mtg finalized ToRs of the Joint Monitoring, Verification & Compliance Mechanism & amdeliberated on the implementation of the DDR process. JMCM will be launched next week in Mekelle, Tigray.
- In recognition of its stellar leadership of the Ethiopian peace process, the AU, through Chairperson @AUC_MoussaFaki, received a peace award from the Government of #Ethiopia. I am pleased to have anchored the AUC’s stewardship of the peacemaking initiative. 1/2

- Concluded 3 days consultations in NYC & Washington DC with UN & US Government officials on Somalia, Sahel, Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia & funding for AU PSOs. Enhanced partnership through multilateralism was emphasized. AU remains central to this process.
- Co-Chaired 1st AU-EU Senior Officials Meeting in Brussels. Deliberations focused on how to improve cooperation on governance, Conflict prevention & Mediation, security & defence initiatives, cybersecurity, DDR, terrorism & violent extremism. Useful platform for concerted action.
- Arrived in Cairo, 🇪🇬 for the 14th AU High Level Retreat on the Promotion of Peace & Security in Africa. The mtg will reflect on how to refocus & optimize mediation as a tool for national cohesion & Dev. Africa’s growth & prosperity is contingent on peace & stability.
- As outgoing President @Macky_Sall & his party’s candidate @AmadouBa congratulate President-elect @DiomayeFaye, #Senegal 🇸🇳 consolidates its democratic values. Trust in public institutions is critical to enhancing rule of law, justice & prosperity. Democracy is critical for #Dev.
