NEW: @andrewcuomo just conceded the Democratic primary for mayor of New York City to @ZohranKMamdani. Cuomo had universal name ID, a $25M PAC backing him and tons of institutional endorsements. Mamdani is a 33-year-old socialist. The magnitude of this can't be overstated.

Observations from Iowa - it is very flat, driving is monotonous, there is more unbuilt land in one block than NYC has in an entire borough, dirt roads are terrifying, no one carries almond milk and caucus-goers are extremely well-informed.

I'm stunned by what he just said. I wouldn't expect @NYCMayor to not defend his own police department but to essentially dismiss protestors as clueless, provocative, opportunistic out-of-towners is not at all what I would have expected this mayor to say in this moment.

Lots of ifs. But *if* Mamdani wins and *if* Lander's vote share goes more to him than Cuomo (it's been fairly evenly split when he gets disqualified in polls) he will likely be celebrated by a movement that passed him over for Mamdani.

That the crowd at Cadman Plaza is booing @NYCMayor over his handling of police and race is monumental to anyone who has followed his career. This is not just twitter, white ppl, elitists or whatever else his defenders want to say. This is the base that elected him.
