Remember when trying to rewrite a companions life was treated as a disgusting violation of their agency that often resulted in intense emotions as they lashed out and fought to maintain the life they knew to be their own?
One nice thing about Doctor Who characters, to make myself feel better.
Nine. I think he’s peak characterization for the Doctor. Everything he does is dripping with intent and personality. No matter what he does, it always feels like him, never once is he out of character.
The way Amy’s story touched on motherhood, femininity, patriarchy, and gender roles in such subtle ways that beautifully tie into her fears of inadequacy will always be famous to me.
The way Belinda is relegated to babysitting will always be heart breaking to me.
Amy Pond, Belinda Chandra, Motherhood, and Misogyny. A very important 🧵 because I think the comparison of these two story arcs is actually quite interesting for what it shows about the strengths and shortcomings both possess from a character writing standpoint.
rtd2 wishes it could have this kind of character conflict. this isn’t even the best display of their conflict in this episode AND most people think this episode is bad
Really miss when scripts used to have breathing space to show the companions life and how travelling with the doctor would change them. This scene with absolutely no dialogue is phenomenal
Genuinely devastated that despite Rory’s best efforts to never leave Amy alone, he still died first and “left” Amy alone for those last five years of her life.
Like- that’s genuinely the worst thing Moffat could have ever done to them.
